Need help fast!
Need help fast!
I have had my bipap for about 7 weeks now. I have changed masks and headgear twice. When I first got the new mask and headgear, the first night was wonderful! Now, not so much. Each night I get woken up numerous times due to buzzing or blowing air into my eyes. I am so tired and frustrated! I have worked with my husband who is also a bipap wearer to no avail. Anyone have any words of wisdom or tricks to help seat the mask so I don't get woken up all night?
Re: Need help fast!
There are hundreds types of masks. I use a mask (see below) that fits nicely around my nose. Still, with the average pressure inside the mask of 12 cm I get leaks into my eyes. My ophthalmologist gave me eye drops (lubrication) to use before going to sleep. But I am too lazy to take it. So whenever I go to pee at night (around 3 times) I wet my hand fingers with faucet water and rub them on my closed eyes lightly. It works good for me. It took me more than a year to find a suitable mask. If I can't fall a sleep within 30 min after masking I take 5 mg of Zolpidem (generic Ambien). I usually sleep 6:30 hours.

But doesn't the blowing air wake you up? That is my problem, being woken up several times a night.

No, it's not strong enough to wake me.goldt59 wrote:But doesn't the blowing air wake you up? That is my problem, being woken up several times a night.
Wear swim goggles or glasses!

If it worked the first night it should continue to work now. Check the cushion some masks are bad about coming loose from the frame.

Please login and edit your profile to show your equipment. Without knowing what equipment you use it is very hard to help you. There are hundreds of different masks on the market and dozens of machines. You wouldn't call up a mechanic and and say "My vehicle makes a funny noise. What do I do about it?"goldt59 wrote:I have had my bipap for about 7 weeks now. I have changed masks and headgear twice. When I first got the new mask and headgear, the first night was wonderful! First of all, "goldt59" needs to register as a member of the forum........THEN they can have a profile with which to edit and list their equipment.
Short of that, if they will at least list the specific equipment (make/model) and pressure they're using would help.

Re: Need help fast!
While this isn't the "fast" method or cheap, I kept trying different masks until I hit on the one that fit me to a T. Every mask is different, every face is different and it would have to be a lot of luck involved for your first try to work without any issues. Mask try number six was when I finally got the one that worked without issue for me at my pressure of 19 cmH20. Until I found my fit me and the ramp button were close friends. I could press it every 30 minutes without waking up. Of course that technique did not help the machine manage my apnea but it at least kept me wearing the mask some nights when I otherwise would have just given up. Masks are not cheap but if it doesn't fit then the aggravation is as bad as the apnea to me. Finally having a mask that fits is worth the money it took to find it.
