1st night on Bipap

Post by Ava » Sat Aug 31, 2013 7:45 pm

Got my new machine yesterday a Bi Pap

My settings are 12/8 and they told me no more than 31 AHI per night but I just went to look and they didn't set it to where I can look at that. I might give them a call and see If that can be changed.

Q........ I felt good this morning I used it for looks like 8hrs and it did NOT blow me up like a balloon overnight like the CPAP had started doing.... but tonight I am exhausted... Cant hold my head up.... I am hoping that it is working correctly.... fingers crossed for another good night.

Ava

What is the brand and model number of your machine? I assume Respironics PR System One 60 series since you have that humidifier selected.
All of the Respironics PR System One BiPaps are full data machines and software to see the data gathered is easily obtained and used.
See my signature line for software information links.

This link has instructions on how to get to the clinical menu setup area so that you can turn on the Show AHI feature so you can see at least the AHI number on the LCD screen

Once you figure out exactly which machine you are using you can also request a copy of the clinical manual.

Hi

Yes it is the Phillips System one machine.

I found the instructions to change the settings BUT I am hesitant to do so just yet. they supposedly are getting readings from it via wireless ? it has a little antennae on the back of it still. I will find out this week though about changing the AHI so I can see what it is doing. and if they wont change it then, well I have your instructions.

Thanks for all the help.

Yes, the little antenna is part of a cell connection they use to download your sleep and compliance information for every night. They check your compliance to make sure you're using the machine enough for your insurance to pay for it, after which time it belongs to you and theoretically you could do as you please with it.

This is just my .02 but I wouldn't make any changes myself while you're still being checked for compliance. What I would do is ask my DME if they would mind changing it for you. That way, you're covered.

Also, make sure to ask them what your compliance protocol is. Mine was something like usage of a minimum of 4 hours per night for 70% of the nights in the first 30 or maybe 60 days, not positive which. But since the machine doesn't know if you're asleep or not, I remember laying there wide awake many nights until I had reached 4 hours. They said they would bill me for the machine if I failed to comply.

Changed the setting in the clinical menu to turn on the "Show AHI" feature so that the AHI and leak data is reported on the LCD screen is not the type of setting change that the DME is likely going to even notice.
The main things they might look at would be pressure, leaks, AHI and of course the real reason for the mode...how many hours that you use it each night. They won't be able to tell from the modem reporting that the "show AHI" feature has been activated.

I spoke with supplier of the machine. and one reason I wasn't seeing anything on AHI is because no data yet had only used it for 1 night. she looked it up, and said they had gotten downloads from it and everything looked great. and I am starting to feel better too.... NO more balloon look anymore in the mornings....

Ijust checked it, I still cannot see AHI but will find out next week how to change It.
