new cpap machine

Post by Jasonel » Tue Sep 03, 2013 12:04 pm

I recently upgraded from a Respironics "Brick" to a Auto A Flex, eager to have access to daily data and hoping that the "auto" option would customize the pressure automatically. My prescription is for a pressure of 6 but the auto delivery is always less, 4 or even 2. Do I misunderstand what "auto" has to offer? Am I better off setting it to 6 and leaving it alone? I am still having a hard time understanding the AHI data, and the SleepyHead videos are almost impossible to see as well as displaying what looks like an outdated PC interface. How can I best learn to interpret and use SleepyHead data? Thanks all

Check out my SleepyHead tutorial for understanding of the basics of the data you are seeing.

The default pressure settings for the auto mode is 4 to 20...it can't ever go below 4 cm...so you can't be seeing 2.
If your regular cpap RX is for 6 cm...then you might try 5 minimum and it should work well at that minimum...now the maximum that may or may not even be a factor depending on how high the machine wants to go.
I would suggest maybe setting the maximum to 10 cm and see if the machine ever wants to go there...if it doesn't then it really becomes a non issue.
Just evaluate the pressure graphs to see where the machine thinks it wants to go. It it often maxes out at 10 cm...might increase the minimum a little first before increasing the maximum. Often with an optimal minimum pressure the maximum pressure needed is greatly reduced.

If you still have questions about your data after reading the tutorial come back here to your thread and post images of what you are seeing that you don't understand and someone will try to explain things.
It helps if we see what you are seeing. Don't know how to post an image of a report? We talked about it here in this thread

Your machine cannot deliver pressures below 4. If your correct pressure is 6 and you are comfortable at 6, maybe you should start at 6 fixed and see what your data looks like before messing with auto.

The "2" you are seeing may be the Aflex setting or the humidifier setting. It isn't the pressure, which cannot go below 4.
