Gave up all alcohol--ah1 better

Post by knightlite » Sun Sep 01, 2013 10:37 am

My doctor and a virus finally convinced me to stop even an occasional glass of wine. It pains me to do that but my ah1 has dropped to almost zero. I really thought my machine had broke but then I had a poor night and it went up to 1.4 so its working.
My diabetes numbers should get better too. It has been 3 months but at 68 years old it was time for some big decisions . Which did I want ,more good health or pleasure--age old question. I have been moving forward with my health ,xpap was one of those decisions.
can't stop the clock but I don't want to suffer side effects until the end.
Just sayin it is working for me, I don't have a problem with my wife and friends having some in front of me .
I study these forums and I learn some good things ,without it I would feel as if lost alone at sea. Dme tells me lies or they really don't know any better. Md only does my general health and sends me to which ever specialist . She doesn't have time to be a sleep doctor , If she thought I was having trouble I would be off to a hard to see sleep doctor again.
Never saw the sd when I had my sleep study , but I did receive my prescription, refused his machine, picked my own dme , got a data machine , bought my own apap from forum member. In short I owe a lot to the kind good people here , I just ignore the chafe people.
I still cook with a little wine but no tasting for the cook.
Good luck with your journeys.

Giving up alcohol is beneficial, but considering an AHI of 1.4 as a "poor night" is wrong. Many people on this board have never seen an AHI that low. AHI will vary from night to night. In my case I average 1.5-2.5 with an occasional 3+. I'm very happy with those numbers and will not make any changes to try for a "perfect score".

A serving of wine with a meal is beneficial to health, however being a wino isn't. All things in moderation. Jim

What I meant as a bad night was restless disturbed sleep . Ah1 numbers are not the end all , just a guide . I am usually below 3 but quality sleep is more than that to me . Still learning and working on better rem .

I gave up alcohol years ago because it made me say stupider things than I normally would.

Me too, or I would talk incessantly (which is unusual for me, usually lost for words).
