Pressure increase = jaw drop?

Post by acidragon » Sun Sep 01, 2013 1:24 am

Ive been using cpap since early this year. I've been running at pressure of 6.5 and average 2 AHI. I've been slowly bumping up my pressure (0.5 at a time) from 4.0 cm 3-4 AHI. For the last week I went to 7.0 from 6.5 to see if it would change my AHI. But what I found out was that I would wake up with my jaw dropped, dry mouth and a ton of air coming out of my mouth. Went back down to 6.5 and it seemed to stop. I can actually feel a difference in air flow from 6.5 to 7.0. I've kind of gotten use to the amount of air flow I get from 7.0 any ideas on how to stop the jaw dropping without dropping back down in pressure?

You could try a neck collar or chin strap to see if that would help. Other options would be try full face masks that have a chin flap such as the hybrid masks and ones made by F&P or Hans Rudolph.

Best of luck.
