Leaky dripping S8 H4i humidifier chamber

Post by big_dave » Wed Aug 28, 2013 12:00 am

This morning I emptied my humidifier chamber and set it upside down to dry. When I filled it this evening, I noticed that water was dripping from the bottom, which felt a little loose. I tried to push it back on securely but I'm not sure if it will make any difference. This is the second time this has happened. I've used this chamber for five months and the one before it for eight months, starting when I purchased my S8. Does anyone know any tricks for fixing it or making it last longer? I haven't had any trouble with mineral buildup or anything slimy growing in it. I clean it with vinegar followed by Control III every 2 or 3 weeks. I have a spare chamber but obviously I will have to order another. How long does the S9 humidifier chamber last?

Just to make sure we are talking about the same item I have been using this chamber

The main issue is that there can be some corrosion or pitting under the gasket. This can allow some leakage. I simply put a very small amount of Vaseline between the stainless steel bottom and the gasket and that has eliminated the leaks.

Check out your plate and see if there is any corrosion. My best guess is that distilled water is acidic and the stainless quality is most likely not top quality so some corrosion can take place.

FYI-Medicare guidelines (and many insurers follow this, as I understand it) allow for a new humidifier chamber every 6 months.

S9 water chambers have the advantage that the entire bottom is metal. The water level is below the seal between the plastic and metal.
