Wisp nasal mask: last night's Encore basic report

Post by ellen1159 » Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:08 am

This is last night's detail on Encore Basic using the Wisp nasal mask. I taped my mouth but not so tight that I couldn't get air in. My mouth was a little dry when I took off the mask butnot as bad as if I'd had it open all night. I went 5 hours with the mask on, awake for maybe an hour from 1o to 11, then woke at 2 and didn't go back to sleep. The awake times show a lot of CA's. Does this mean that perhapsImage I got some therapy while I was sleeping?

Yes, you got therapy while sleeping.
The period of time that you were asleep, yes...very decent therapy for the 3 hours you were asleep.
The CAs just ignore them when you know you were awake during those times.

That's good to hear, Pugsy. I'm such a worrywart, I can't help but wonder how much air escaped through my mouth even though I used a piece of tape, and how that affected therapy. but at least I didn't have the horrendous leaks.

Your leak line isn't so pretty and you probably did have some air escape through the mouth, from the looks of things, but at this point the whole goal is to get you sleeping with the mask and have some semblance of decent therapy and since you didn't hit large leak territory last night this is a great report.
The machine can compensate for a good bit of leaking as long as it isn't massive leaks so we can trust this data.
Given your history...this is a quite acceptable report and we will gladly take it.

Interesting to note that during the 3 hours of sleep you did get that the pressures didn't want to go all that high...at least not as high as was originally thought. Probably too soon to make much out of that and it was just 3 hours but maybe you don't need EPAP in the 20s like first thought.

Baby steps Ellen, baby steps and you will eventually get there. Sometimes a little mouth breathing is the lesser of two evils when it comes to leaks.

thank you Pugsy and everyone else who has been responding to my panicked rants. Your help is invaluable, I would have given up long ago without your concern and support. I just hope I can pay it back.
