New to data - trying to interpret leaks

Post by SteveGold » Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:07 am

After a year on a brick I finally sprung for an APAP, which I've been using for the last three days. I already feel better on Auto than I did on CPAP, and the data seems to bear this out. But I'm wondering if the leaks are something I should be addressing.

I know leaks are a part of life and can never be eliminated completely. I've also read Pugsy's thread on interpreting them, but I'm still not sure what I'm looking at here. It may be that my leaks are within an acceptable range/frequency (as I said, I feel pretty good). If anyone can take a quick look and chime in, I'd appreciate it.

Do the leaks wake you up?

If not...it looks like you are well below 24 L/min (your large leak territory line) the entire night. You nudge close with a few spikes near 20 L/min but you don't even hit large leak territory. I count that as a huge success myself. Even a few short blips into large leak territory wouldn't be the end of the world but you don't even have little blips.

SleepyHead tends to make mountains out of molehills with some of the leak graphs due to the scale involved.

Now if the leaks woke you up then you would of course want to limit them but because they impacted sleep quality and not necessarily because they impact therapy quality.

How are you feeling? Sleeping?
As far as the leaks go I would be doing a happy dance for sure.
Pretty good looking report on paper and I don't see anything that stands out needing any work if you are doing well.

Thanks Pugsy. I do wake up a few times a night with a dislodged mask or mouth breathing, but I usually make an adjustment and go back to sleep. My main concern was whether the leaks were impacting my therapy throughout the night, outside of arousals, which doesn't appear to be the case.

I agree, my numbers are good. I've also felt consistently better over the last three days than in the last year, and in the last two months in particular. It could be due to using Auto mode, or EPR (I didn't even realize it was on) - hard to know. In any case the APAP has already proven its worth.

I appreciate you taking some time to look over these graphs.
