I don't have a data package. Is it worth getting one?

Post by scarny » Sat Aug 24, 2013 1:09 pm

I never got a paper report of my last sleep study, which was done two months ago. Should I ask for it from my doctor? And if so, how will it help me?

Also, I hear people talk about AHI and other readings, but I don't have a data package on my CPAP. Given my type of machine listed below, is it possible to "upgrade" to a data plan, such as sleepyhead? And are doctors usually willing to allow it for insurance purposes? I'm just wondering what everyone's experiences have been with these issues. Thanks.

Well you won't know if it will help you until you get it. Some sleep study reports arent very helpful and some are. Mine alerted me to 3 problems: 1. Restless Legs 2. Continual awakenings and 3. an increase in heart rate at times to 140bpm. The main thing is if you are having problems, there may be clues in that study. If no problems, you could skip it. Personally I think it helps to be an informed patient.

cant answer that but I am sure someone here who is more knowledgeable will comment.

Good luck!

Your blower does not show up (discontinued?)
Please state the model number (names are meaningless), and someone will be able to say.
NOTE: empty or remove tank before reading anything on the bottom!

What model machine do you have? Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit number.
The humidifier you have chosen was discontinued back in 2007 so I suspect you have chosen the wrong humidifier.
Your machine doesn't show up at all...some of the links are broken. Tell us which model name and we can tell you if that link is broken or you just have chosen the wrong machine by mistake.
Let's figure out for sure which machine you have then we can tell you if you have a full data machine.
Sleepyhead is free...there's no cost except your time.

I have the PR System One REMstar Plus CPAP Machine with C-Flex. The humidifier is a heated, integrated System One & Dry Box.

That PR System One Plus CPAP with CFlex would be model number 250.
The correct humidifier choice in the equipment menu would be "PR System One Heated Humidifier".

That model machine doesn't collect any data other than hours of use.
You can't even monitor your leak with it and leaks are a very important part of therapy along with the other data that the full efficacy data machines collect.
Is it worth it to upgrade to a machine that gathers full efficacy data? I think it is.
Some people don't care about the data. If you are feeling great...sleeping great then maybe the data available wouldn't point to anything exciting other than confirmation that you are doing well.
But if you aren't doing so great you don't have anything to try to evaluate to see what might be going wrong that might explain why things aren't going well.
All the DME and doctor can say is "give it more time"...well all the time in the world can't fix a bad leak or sub optimal pressure.
Have you read this

For examples of what can been seen on a full data machine take a look at this thread where I explain the data that SH shows
viewtopic/t88983/Pugsys-PointersSleepyH ... nding.html
There's a lot more to the software than just the few examples I talk about.
