Hi All,
My "anti-death machine" as I like to call my CPAP has been malfunctioning for the last couple months. I took it in, and they can send it off to be fixed, but I'd have to pay a portion of the repair as per insurance.
I have the REMSTAR PRO C-FLEX +, I like it (if anyone can truly like a CPAP) my AHI is usually <1 nightly. I was talking the DME tech about how I hate how this machine beeps when turned on, it wakes my wife, or draws attention when camping in a group, bunking on a dive charter, etc. Why in the world REMSTAR doesn't allow an option to turn off the beep, I'll never know.
I was thinking of maybe just getting a new machine. He said that the RESMED S9 ELITE is comparable, and has no beeping noise. Since my AHI is so low, I don't want to mess with success, but if they are very similar, and no beeps, what a plus. Can anyone verify this? Any thoughts on each machine?
Thanks!

REMSTAR PRO C+ VS. RESMED S9 ELITE
Pressure: 10
Re: REMSTAR PRO C+ VS. RESMED S9 ELITE
The current PRS1 REMstar Pro, the DS460, does not beep when it turns on, has humidifier preheat, a backlight for the screen, and a heated tube. They added the ability to disable the beep (and set it to beep disabled by default) to the DS450 back in mid-2011, and called that "Silent mode".
The PRS1 DS460 version of the REMstar Pro also has time-limited auto functionality and a new CPAP mode called CPAP-Check, where once every thirty hours it checks your stats and might tweak your pressure up or down by 1cm, tethered to remain within 3cm of your set pressure.
If you've been finding the REMstar Pro comfortable, you may just want to upgrade to the current version. Most of the consumables are the same (heated tube excepted), although if you get it with heated hose support, it will come with a higher wattage power supply. The biggest day-to-day difference between it and the S9 Elite is in exhalation relief.

Re: REMSTAR PRO C+ VS. RESMED S9 ELITE
Update: So, my Remstar PRO C+ was dying on me, 6 months out of warranty... OF COURSE... So, I take it in to get repaired, and my DME gives me a RESMED Autoset, as an exchange, (FREE) I was even told it still has 1.5 years of warranty.
DId I get a good machine? The DME said I would be able to read the card at home, ie it isn't a "brick." It looks all fancy with digital read out, kinda like a neat looking ipod boom box.

Ok, feeling better. To be honest, I am just glad it doesn't beep when turned on and off!
