Introducing the new cheap brick from Respironics

60 Series SE CPAP machine. With a wonderful LED display that shows you . . .

Absolutely NOTHING except the pressure. Compliance data only.

The LED display must be easy to see at night, but so what. Most people who accept this machine are going to be on a fixed pressure that the DME sets and they will be locked out of changing it anyway, so who needs to see it in the dark???

Money maker for those competitive bidders, nothing more.

These manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves!

On a more positive note, sometime last month I visited a couple of DME shops in a nearby town (killing time while my wife had an eye doctor's appointment) and had a nice long chat with the folks at one of them. I found out that they ONLY dispense Auto/APAP machines for a CPAP prescription. They also showed me the vast selection of masks that they offer, too.
That gave me hope that all is not lost in this small part of the world.

At $399, if it did bi-pap, I'd consider buying one as a travel machine...but that's just me.

Yeah, anybody would snap up a bi-pap for $399 but NOBODY is going to make one costing that little.

if this was truly smaller than the regular Respironics 60 series and worked with the existing humidifier, it might be worth $399 for travel if you can tolerate a fixed pressure CPAP. But the problem is that's not the purpose of this low cost brick. It'll be given to newbies who don't know any better and would never know to ask for data capability or auto-adjusting features until it's too late. And Medicare will pay $1200 or thereabouts for it (NOTE: I'm not sure what they really pay in this era of competitive bidding). The DME may get to pocket more than $800 for the "service" they provide.

It's the "Home Oxygen Department" at the West Park Hospital in Cody, Wyoming.
