OT, just the book to read before going to sleep.

"Doctor Sleep," by Stephen King.

For nodding off to sleep, I've had great luck with what the literary world calls (or disparages as) 'English cozy cottage mysteries'. Typically they are British themed and involve a not too graphic murder at: a) a fox hunt b) a manor house c) seaside resort like Brighton Beach d) a gentleman's club in London... you get the picture. Martha Grimes, Rhys Bowen, Agatha Christie and many others are the main writers in this mild murder genre. Probably not for everyone but they can hold one's attention without dipping too far into the dark recesses of human behavior, unlike Ian Rankin, Peter Robinson, Kate Atkinson, Ken Folllett etc' If you want to stay up late chewing your nails, stick with the last four I mentioned

I like old mysteries too. The problem is that they aren't writing them anymore.

But they are. Look for Carolla Dunn. She writes mysteries set in the 20's and, gulp, 60's.

Rhys Bowen has ones set in the early 30's.

They are my night time reading too.

Then there are the less well known older ones Georgette Heyer, Colin Watson, Patricia Wentworth. The older Barnard and Catherine Aird ones,

I listen to the classic radio channel (82) on SXM.
Used to tune into Book Radio, but that's gone now.
SXM has no idea how close they came to losing my business.
I zonk out too quickly to read at bedtime.

I usually prefer male writers. Most women put in too much romance. I don't want to read romance. I like my romance live.
