New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
I have a prescription for a Respironics PRO 660 BiPAP machine. After finding that the local dealers were trying to overcharge the heck out of me, I decided to buy online. The doctors office even decided to provide me some links since I am paying for this totally on my own. I'd like to know about how much I should end up spending in total (BiPAP + accessories + humidifier). Also, is the ResMed S9 a better option? If yes, then why? How much would I pay for that (with shipping)? I'm on a budget and wouldn't like to go over 2 grand. The local dealer out here went way over that. I'll be making my purchase very soon because, according to the sleep study, I stopped breathing 115 times within 1 hour. Thanks for any and all responses.

Re: New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
Taking nothing away from the expertise of your prescribing physician, before you spend your money it might be wise to post the details from your sleep study. A standard bilevel might work perfect, but then again, spending a few extra dollars on an auto bipap might be better strategy.
There are quite a few sleep lab experts here who would be able to assist in the initial recommendation. Overall I have found ResMed auto bipaps work best, but that's not 100%.
I know this isn't much of an answer to start with. Sorry about that, but without more details it's hard to make a recommendation. How many events did you have? What are your prescribed pressures? Lots and lots to consider for sure.

Re: New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
I have owned and used both brands of bilevel machines...the PR S1 BiPap and the ResMed S9 VPAP....minor pros and cons with either but with the 60 series PR S1 heated hose...pretty much leveled the playing field.
It's a toss up. I liked both pretty much equally.

Re: New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
If I get an auto BiPAP/VPAP, does it provide a feature to turn off the "auto" mode?

Yes,mrwatkin wrote:If I get an auto BiPAP/VPAP, does it provide a feature to turn off the "auto" mode?
The DS760 has three different modes, CPAP, BiLevel, AutoB. In BiLevel mode it becomes equal to the features of a DS660.
The VPAP Auto has three different modes, CPAP, S, VAuto. In S mode it becomes equal to a S9 VPAP S.
Your other option with either machine in Auto mode is to set PS = 0.

Is this a new feature of the 760? The 750 has the default PS of 2 when you turn on machine in auto mode.STL Mark wrote:

Re: New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
I got out the 760 and played with the settings. It does indeed default to Min PS 2.0 and Max PS 8.0. It does allow both to be changed from the defaults downward to zero. I don't have a 750 to compare it to.RandyJ wrote:Is this a new feature of the 760? The 750 has the default PS of 2 when you turn on machine in auto mode.STL Mark wrote:

I did notice when returning it to default settings you had to do Max PS first, it will not allow Min PS to change from 0 if Max PS = 0.

Re: New to this and about to purchase a BiPAP
Yes, and new feature being PS minimum and maximum instead of a single max PS (where the default is 2 while awake and max roams to where you set it).... and you can also set PS minimum to equal PS maximum and make it function like the S9 VPAP in Auto Bilevel mode.RandyJ wrote:Is this a new feature of the 760?
