New machine
New machine
I have been a lurker for a while, but finally signed up. I am getting a new machine (I have a remstar M series) and I want to get the best one out there. I was thinking S9 autoset, but I see they have VPAP and some other machines as well as the PRS1 being out there. I know there is some debate as to what is the best, but can I get some opinions? I have met my deductible, so money isn't really an object. I want to get the best machine I can, my pressure was found to be 9.0 and my apnea was considered severe, but I don't have that number yet. I want to get in to a new machine ASAP as my old one is dying and won't put out more than 6.5 right now. Thanks!
Re: New machine
VPAP and BiPap are both bilevel pressure machines...they require a special RX to be able to buy one of those.
Are you buying out of pocket or using insurance?
Your pressure of 9 cm probably means you are using a cpap/apap machine now and not a bilevel pressure machine unless you had some severe issues with exhaling against the pressure in the past.
So in that case the ResMed S9 AutoSet would be a great choice along with the equivalent machine in the Respironics line the PR System One 60 series Auto CPAP machine...model 560.
If buying out of pocket...the Respironics the 560 machine at cpap.com is roughly $650 (with humidifier and all the goodies) you need to call to get the discounted price.
The S9 Autoset is going to be a couple hundred dollars more. I have used both brands...it's a toss up really...minor pros and cons with either brand and none are deal breakers.

Re: New machine
Thank you Pugsy, that clears up a lot! Yes, a normal CPAP should be all I need. I will probably push for a S9 autoset as long as I just need the CPAP. Insurance will be covering 80% of the cost.
Re: New machine
Just make sure that whomever you are using to get the machine doesn't try to sneak the S9 Escape Auto in...it has severely limited data capabilities...only thing it offers is a gross overall AHI with no breakdown, no leak..no nothing else useful.
Model name is plainly shown on the top of the machine...avoid anything that says "Escape" on it.
