Results on sleep study received - How bad was it??
I received my results from first sleep study - 17 abnormal breathing episodes per hour. Oxygen level dropped to 76 once. 15 leg movements per hour.
HOW DID I DO??
HOW DID I DO??
I just had my first night of sleep study. My questions is, when I have the gastric bypass surgery and lose weight, will I still have to wear this equipment? I have not received all results, but oxygen level did go down to 76. That they did not like.
I think the reason that you didn't get a response is that there isn't enough info to determine AHI. How many hours did you sleep? How many events did you have total?
For example, if you had 17 episodes over 10 hours, that would be an AHI of 1.7
However, if you had 17 episodes and only slept one hour, that would be an AHI of 17.
See where I am going?
It sounds like 17 per hour which would translate to ahi of 17.
If so, here is how it ranks
So, according to that, if your AHI is 17, you have moderate sleep apnea.

LinkThe severity of OSA is arbitrarily defined and differs widely between centers. Recent recommendations for cutoff levels on AHIs are as follows:
* Mild - Five to 15 episodes per hour
* Moderate - Fifteen to 30 episodes per hour
* Severe - More than 30 episodes per hour
So, according to that, if your AHI is 17, you have moderate sleep apnea.

HOW DID I DO??
I remember exactly how I felt when my sleep doc mentioned, in what seemed like a fairly offhand manner, that I stopped breathing between 20 and 30 times an hour. I was scared witless Fortunately, the doc then reassured me that this was a condition that can be treated very effectively and introduyced me to the world of xPAP.
From reading in this forum over several months, I've now learnt that this is by no means exceptional, with some reporting upwards of 50 episodes an hour.
I can't comment on the leg movements or oxygen levels - beyond my experience - but I'm sure others will offer insight.
How did your doc react to the results? I'm sure a combination of your doc's advice and the support/encouragement/experience in this forum will help you find the right combination of treatment to deal with it.
Good luck

I was atypical according to the sleep tech (is there such a thing as typical?) and had a couple of severe hours and a few moderate. My overall AHI is 30, but supine it was 45 and in REM it was 54. But despite all that, my oxygen only dropped to 88% at the lowest (97% highest). So it sounds like you are having longer events because of the greater oxygen deprivation. But I AM NOT A DOCTOR and do not play one on the Internet either. I can say that if it were me, I would treat this seriously.

I went to the Dr. thinking I had ADD. The Dr. ordered a sleep study and they stopped me half way thru and put me on a CPAP. I had 122 episodes an hour and 02 went to 60%. The Pulmonoligist told me I had the worst case he's ever seen. I'm 34 and I'm sure that I've had it at least 10 years. And people wonder how "Snoring" can be harmful.

Good luck...!!! Let us know how it goes. Hope it gives you some great results. But even if it's not a perfect night, don't be discouraged. Remember, your sleep apnea is severe, and no doubt your body will need some adjusting. But there's a good chance you'll feel improvement right away. Again, good luck!!Anonymous wrote:I'm 38 and have just had sleep study as well, and mine was ranked at
severe severe sleep apnoea at 143 episodes per hour. I have just hired my resmed machine and I am going to try it for the first time tonight!!

My word, 143 events an hour?
Mine was 41.something an hour and classified as severe. I can't imagine anyone having over 100 and living to tell about it.
Just thank your lucky stars you are still alive. Bless your heart.
With treatment, you just might feel like superman.
