This was a number of years ago and every once in awhile you run into some seller that has NO track record to go on.....so you roll the dice and go on "faith". (we learn a lot from our mistakes, too)
Best wishes,
Den
For sure! I've been bitten once by someone with decent reviews, and took a chance on a "First" - that one turned out to be the sweetest transaction and a truly nice person. NOW, I need to SELL some "stuff"Wulfman- wrote:Offerocker wrote:Wulfman:

eBay and Oximeters ...
I have bought 3 P.O. units & never once got asked for a prescription.
I have purchased every type of P.O. probe from, toe, ear, disposable, regular & again never got asked for a prescription. In fact one purchase was for a box of 23 Nellcor DS-25 disposables (cost $20 or thereabouts).
What I can say is that I would never buy a P.O. without its cables & a probe.
I have seen the finger probes fetch more than some model P.O., units then seen complete sets for less than the separate parts added together.
One other trick the sellers get up to is to say, untested but powers up. Usually this means the internal lead-acid gell-cell battery is dead (they don't last all that long) but they are only about $20-25.
I also bought one unit very cheaply but had to refurbish it because it was so knocked around.
My guideline is if you are not an engineer or tinkerer, get a machine that is stated to be in good condition & tested. Reasonable prices for good gear tend to be in the $200-$400 range.
Also go for the better brands as the cables & probes are cheaper to purchase if you want to add different types. Nellcor is #1 choice, Ohmeda is also a good brand.
One other problem is people saying they have probes that fit say an Ohmeda but they don't mention that their probe has a different connector type that requires an expensive adapter cable - these can cost $100-$200 extra. One classic example is someone selling an Ohmeda probe that has what is called a 'lollipop' connector (I also call the xmas tree connectors) & the seller says it will work with all Ohmedas but fails to say you need the expensive 'barrel' to 'lollipop' cable. But Ohmeda actually have two different types of 'barrel' plug outlets on their P.O., units, for their probes. Nellcor P.O., units also have different connectors on their P.O., unit panels, different by model, but most Nellcor P.O. probes have what is called a 'DB' (DB-9) plug, so many models require an adapter cable (or pre-amp cable as some call them).
All the above cable mismatches are the best reason to buy a P.O., with all its cables & a probe supplied.
I will do a photo shoot sometime of a set of adaptor cables & probe types for both Nellcor & Ohmeda.
Cheers
