IS THIS NORMAL?

Post by Guest » Sat May 20, 2006 3:19 pm

I've been using CPAP for about a month now. I'm finally getting some sleep with the New Breeze mask on. I sleep for 3-4 hours, wake up for about 30 minutes, then fall back asleep for another 2-3 hours. The sleep has been good, but I feel sort of hung-over during the day. Is it true that the first few weeks you actually sleep with CPAP, that your body sort of goes through a transitional period due to not having properly slept in years?

I really don't know how to describe the feeling. It's sort of winded, groggy, but overall and pleasant relaxed feeling. I don't want to imply it feels worse then before CPAP, its just much different. Is this typical when you first start actually getting sleep?

Thanks!

The answer is.....

"YES" to all of your questions.

Depending on the severity and length of time you've been suffering with it, the recovery period can vary greatly.

Hang in there. Don't expect overnight miracles, but they will come.

Guest,

There seem to be a variety of reactions to xPAP therapy. What you are describing certainly fits in with what some others have reported here before.

One phenomenon often described is what we call 'Cpapers High', this is characterized as a state of euphoria sometimes accompanied by needing only part of a nights sleep.

The effect tends to pass within a couple of months & people settle down to a more regular pattern of improvement.

Good luck
