APAP is ON THE WAY !!!

Post by pratzert » Wed May 17, 2006 4:50 pm

Hey Everybody !

I ordered my RemStar Auto w/C-Flex and heated humidifier from cpap.com yesterday.

I already have the tracking number and it left their warehouse last night.

It's due to be delivered to me on Friday at my office.

So... I should have my first experience Friday night.

I also finally got my Activa Mask from Apria.

Oh... and I ordered the card reader from 2factors.com yesterday as well.

I don't know how long it will take for the reader to come in.

I also have a copy of Encore Pro V.1.5 and MyEncore.

I think I'm all set. Can anyone think of anything else I may have overlooked in the way of supplies for now ?

I "Assume" the reader from 2factors will come WITH a smart card... and I "assume" the Remstar Auto will also come with a smart card. Am I correct on these "assumptions" ?

The ONLY thing that lingers in the back of my brain... is that I hope I won't be sorry I did not spend another $800 for the Respironics BiPAP Auto w/BiFlex. But my titration pressure was only 10cm.

I would say that I'm "Holding my Breath" until it arrives, but I've done to much of that already !

Tim

The card reader from Hong Kong does NOT come with a smart card, the smart card comes with the Auto Pap though. Its in a slot in the side of the machine.

Did you have any problems downloading your software, both Encore Pro and My Encore? If so there are "stickys" on the top of this forum adressing downloading problems. If no problems it sounds like you are good to go.

In the beginning, everyone has the tendency to look at their data on a daily basis. When I started 6months ago, I changed my pressure around after a few days. Others here will probably suggest also, to make decisions about tweaking your pressure by seeing "long term trends" meaning at least a week or two weeks data. Its hard to get a good picture of your success by just one nights data. That's what My Encore is good at. It interprets data from Encore Pro so that you can see long term pattern.

But you sound good to go. Some people have success with the first mask they purchase and others have to try many. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones!

Good Luck!
Suzy

snoozie_suzy,

Thanks for the info about the reader NOT having a card.

DARN IT !!! I should have ordered an extra one with my machine.

Now I'll have to pay shipping. The Smart Card is $10 from cpap.com

I'm going to order it right now !

Tim

Tim~

2factors is an excellent company, they ship things fast considering its coming from Hong Kong. I think it took a little over a week for me to receive it. Maybe 7 business days.

I can't remember the exact link but perhaps Wolfman or Hawkeye will post with it, but there is something in the MSQL server that you are supposed to click like "don't erase data" otherwise everytime you use your smartcard in the reader and it downloads it will automatically erase the data without asking you. A lot of people (including myself) save the data to pdf file on their hardrives and then when asked" delete data" I delete it so that each week when I download it doesn't take forever to download. Others choose not to erase and the card holds I think 6 months of data so the oldest gets erased after 6 months and so forth.

Once you start with your data if you post your numbers and have questions people here are really great about helping you interpret things.

hope you get your equip soon. I have the same machine and love it.

Suzy

I'd wait for a while, to order another card. A card comes with the machine and so far I haven't had a need for an extra card. I plan on getting one, but it isn't a priority with me.

I thought that maybe I'd be doing some of the downloading and massaging of the Data at work rather than home.

If I take the card from the machine into work and forget it... I'd miss a night of Data... nto the end of the world, but if I have spare card, I can swap them back and forth.

SUZY.... Thanks for that reminder about not erasing the data after a download.

I've gotta remember that when I'm setting things up.

The card is automatically erased every time you do a download...unless you run the "Don't erase" file that NightHawkeye mentioned before you do your first download.

To run the "Don't erase" file:

1. go to C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro\Utilities

2. scroll down through the files in Utilities and doubleclick the file named "Don't erase data after download.reg"

That's it. From then on when you start to download from your smart card it will ask you if you want to erase the data - just say "no".

If you ever want to go back to letting the card be erased each time, just open the Utilities directory again and doubleclick a file called: "Erase data after download.reg".

Since I don't have to answer to anyone about my own treatment, I have mine set to Erase data after download. Makes each download go a bit faster to not have it downloading old data I've already seen.

When looking at my overnight data in the Report Viewer, I like to always click "File" - PDF Export" before closing the viewer. I like to save each session of detailed data as a PDF file in case I ever want to look at it in the future.

Suzy,

Thanks... I just copied those directions onto my computer.

That way I know they'll be there when I start working with the software and downloading.

Tim,

I would advise AGAINST swapping cards. You'll lose the continuity in your data in the Encore Pro program. Keep one for a spare (just in case), but don't swap them if you don't absolutely have to.

Best wishes,

And for another opinion on swapping cards:

I've done it more times than I can count, and don't feel like I've missed anything. Wulfman is correct though that the summary portion of the detailed report only shows data for the dates on your Smart Card, but since MyEncore provides more comprehensive summary data anyway, I've never felt that I've lost anything. All of the data from however many cards you use is still stored in the same database. In fact, even if you don't swap cards you will lose the summary data after some number of months anyway (6 months I think).

It also needs to be stated that you will not lose any compliance data if you swap cards. All the compliance data is still visible on one screen from the "Compliance View" in Encore Pro.

Anyway, that's how I feel about swapping cards. I've found it useful. Of course, I've never gotten attached to the summary view in Encore Pro either. Some folks feel differently about it. You may too. Just another viewpoint for you to consider.

Regards,
Bill

Another reason I thught about the swapping of smart cards is because my sleep Doc mentioned something about bringing him my card from time to time for him to download the Data and look at it.

I don't know how long he would have the card. Maybe he would download it on the spot, maybe he would keep it for a few days... I just don't know and didn't think to ask.

So... just in case he keeps it for a while, I'll still have a "back-up" card to stick in my machine.

I download my card once a week, every Sunday. I also don't erase the card. On taking the card to work, do like I do. I save the weeks file as a pdf according to the date. You could email this file to yourself at work. I save all of my files pdf. That way I don't have to depend on the server or swapping cards. I have 2 cards, but only use the one.

What kind of different formats can you save the Data from in ??

Obviously you can save it in a .pdf, what about .doc ( MS WORD) or .xls (EXCEL) ?

Not having ever worked with the software/data yet, I have no idea about the different ways you can massage and manipulate the data, but I would think that if you can save it in an Excel format ( .xls ), that you would be able to display the info in many various charts and graphs, which would be useful.
