CPAP and PH ?

Post by Night Owl » Tue Apr 19, 2005 3:10 pm

Anyone with experience on cpap relieving PH ? There was a post a while ago regarding starting cpap treatment for PH -- just wondering how things are going --

It's a wonderful thing when diagnosed with all these scary things, that at least one portion of all the stuff you go through to get better is done with a community of supporters -- people here who know -- and can and do help you adjust --

For those of us who are apparently dumb, what does PH mean?

I have to assume you're not talking about your personal alkalinity?

Will.

Ahhhh -- you are so right Liam -- the Acid test of communication is to Base it on clarity -- I should have said pulmonary hypertension. It's elevated pressure between/in the heart and lungs. Different than systemic hypertension. Cpap may help some.

At least you didn't say "Personal Hygiene"

I have been in the medical field for quite some time now and am well aware about the probable causes of high blood pressure however I decided to make some random searches in the internet so as to see what the other people have to say about this ever growing problem and in my quest I got myself this wonderful blog which although had nothing to do with cause of high blood pressure but the ways it can be treated the natural way. This is a revolution I feel.

NOT SPAM

Nightowl isn't talking about the kind of blood pressure they are checking when they put that cuff on your arm. Pulmonary hypertension is diagnoses with EKG's, ultrasound, chest xrays, and cardiac catheterizations. Serious and as he says scary stuff-the medications for it have a lot of side effects. I don't know how effective CPAP & oxygen are for it-just that they can help. Probably a lot of people with OSA also have PH but don't know it. I'd like to think that the doctors we see think about the possibility...... Wonder if in the early stage the CPAP helps to prevent the progression of damage to heart & lungs. What did your doc say?

Excuse me Wulfman I thought you were talking about the original message-it was guest Coseir you were referring to. I take a long time to type and missed his message when I looked back.

BTW Cosier what medical field are you in?

Sorry about that, krousseau.
I should have quoted that previous post in my response.
I just get a little nervous when there's a hidden link in a post from an unknown guest.....especially when it drags up some long-lost thread.
I also wasn't curious enough to click on it.....for obvious reasons.

Best wishes,

Den

pulmonary hypertension

Post by Ellen » Thu May 11, 2006 12:43 pm

NightOwl - My deepest sympathys to you if you have pulmonary hypertension - it's quite a bit beyond "scary". My wonderful Dr. suspected PH with me and I was so sick with pneumonia at the time that I couldn't get in for Echocardiogram for 3 weeks. Did much research on PH during that time so I would know what Dr. was talking about. Scared the crap out of me. I was so glad when the Echocardiogram ruled out PH that I didn't even care that I was still so sick................my heart and thoughts go out to you.

From personal experience with lung problems, it makes sense to me that, while CPAP may not CURE PH, it makes sense to me that it could improve your symptoms and your life in general.

Feeling your angst in Wyoming
