Why a prescription?
Ok, I am a little confused, why is a prescription necessary to get a CPAP machine? I realize that is likely the only way the provider is able to get insurance coverage I suppose, but what is the worry?
Maybe its somebody will get high on too much air.
Or somebody is bound to use it for a leaf blower. Perish the thought!
Maybe people will intentionally blow high pressured air at their spouse.
The pressure setting might get too high and the big bad wolf will use it to blow someones house down.
A prescription for a machine that blows nothing but air.
As John Stossell from 20/20 would say "give me a break"

As we say in aviation "All the FARs (federal aviation regulations) are written in blood." Sometime , somewhere , someone did something stupid and someone died. So now we have all of these rules. People still break them and people still die but now they have violated the law.
I Also say follow the money. Just imagine the loss of income at sleep centers and Docs if you didnt need to visit them first. The sales reps would be out of work. Multibillion $ corporations broke..
Just think of it as a job security plan for the medical communiity.
Of course I have seen those that shouldnt be able to buy anything without permmission. Guns, tool, clothing, Automobiles, even FOOD. Face it . Some people can make anything deadly.
Cheers,
Chris

Yeah from what I have read you could set too high (if it is a regular cpap) and cause Central Apnea's or could cause a lot of bloating/discomfort... As for an autoset I wonder tho. If you self diagnose wrongly, get an auto, and you don't have SA, what would it do? I would think it would stay at the bottom pressure the whole time or no?
Yeah, I enjoy looking at warning labels on products and trying to figure out what stupid situation might have led to that warning. Some can be quite humorous, like "Do not spray in eyes" on a bottle of Windex. You think "Hmmmm. Maybe at some point someone thought glass cleaner would work to clean their contacts." when any fool knows it's only for gargling.chrisp wrote:As we say in aviation "All the FARs (federal aviation regulations) are written in blood."
