The Facts: The reason the software was free was because they didn't secure their download site. They didn't create the software for FREE distribution, the created it for PROFIT.mdkohm wrote:If the software was free to download, is there any reason that it can't be shared?
If you are not selling the software, it seems like this would be okay?
For some reason, (Didn't care enough, poor IT people, whatever), they left a way to download the software.
It is the same as if you ran a Car Lot, and left the Key's in the Cars overnight, and then went home. Would you be supprised if you came back the next day and found some Cars missing? Would the Car's that were missing be FREE? Would it be right to TAKE the CARS, because some didn't take the KEYS out?
We all know, we would be STEALING. I don't think many of US would go back the next day asking for the TITLE.
That being said: A Company could benefit in increased product sales, if they would not promote, but allow, The Software, that helps the users of their equiptment to see the results of their treatment, to be DOWNLOADED FREELY, by their customers. It would surely increase their market share, and interest in their brand of equiptment over a like brand that didn't provide treatment data.
If the Companies, Doctor's and DME's were doing their jobs, and providing their customers, with the best treatment this wouldn't be as imporant, but we all know, the patient isn't a concern, except for how deep their pockets are.
