I Really, Really Did Search First (Filter Replacement)

Post by Bella » Tue May 02, 2006 10:53 am

I went to change the disposable white ultra-fine filter on my machine last night and forgot what side goes up. I looked in the manuals - they don't say. I searched here and what I found wasn't quite clear enough for me. (I'm getting old )

I know that the white filter goes under the grey foam one. But what I don't get is which side of the white one is up, and which is down. If you're looking at the back of the machine and put the white one in first - is the heavier side of the filter facing the bottom of the machine, and the finer surface facing the top of the machine, underneath the grey one?

After all of this complicated thinking, I think I need a nap.

cpap.com not only host this forum - they also have faqs on their site.

Here you answer:

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Filters.html#187
In what order do I insert the filters?
If both the foam and paper filters are used, the paper filter is inserted first with the smooth side against the machine and the soft, fuzzy side facing out. The tab is folded out for easy removal. The foam filter is placed on the outside to remove the larger dirt particles first.

Ozij, I looked there too and saw that. I must be having a few "brain fog" days, because that was one of the ones I didn't "get". I've been assuming that all machines are basically the same. The filters go in the back end, one on top of the other with only the skinny outside edges of the filter facing you. The FAQ confuses me where it reads: "the smooth side against the machine and the soft, fuzzy side facing out". It sounds like they are upright like a slice of bread in a toaster. Maybe I should quit now before I sound more stupid, but I don't want to mess up the intake with the filter facing in the wrong direction.

Thanks for your help. I am pretty dense the last few days.

Bella,
The Synchrony must have them placed differently - in the PB and in the Remstar, they are a bit sandwich like.

I"ve just looked at the Synchrony instructions manual (on the net), and I can understand your confusion....

The foam only side of the stack is what filers the air coming from outside.

Thanks for your thoroughness and not making me feel like an idiot
Although I was a bit presumptuous to think that all machines were set up the same way. I know I put the filters in the right order - grey foam on top of white disposable one - and I think I did put the disposable one correct side up.
