New to list & cpap - question about headaches.

Post by Sleepy Lisa » Wed Feb 09, 2005 11:31 am

Hi - I just joined the list, and I've been cpaping for 6 days now. I have had a headache and my sinuses hurt ever since I started the cpap - is this normal? I teach high school - I don't need more headaches! I'm using the full face mask because I've always got a stuffy nose. I had big dreams of starting the cpap and having a good night's rest and having so much energy that I would start exercising and then lose weight so that I wouldn't need the cpap anymore. Now, I just got a 6 day headache.

Welcome Sleepy Lisa,

Are you using a heated humidifier?

S.L.

No humidifier...that's the problem. Pumping all that air in your nose can really dry out your sinuses. What brand and model of machine do you have? Many have integrated heated humidifiers available for them. I can send you a link to look at the correct one for your machine when you post your info. I have found that when I have a cold or sinus congestion that if I use my heated humidifier with the heat turned up that it will keep my sinuses clear through the night. I wish I could use my machine all day because right now I sitting here mouth breathing because I'm all stuffed up!

Thanks Wading!
I have a Resmed S7 Lightweight. A heated humidifier sounds like just the thing.

Get the aussie heated hose as well!

You will need it sooner or later, so might as well either buy some
polar fleece and make a hose warmer, or purchase the world
famous Aussie Heated hose. Keeping your mouth closed may
help reduce the dryness. Tape or chin strip would be something
to try.
