Leftime of mask
Leftime of mask
I had a Repertronics Remstar Mask for 2 years, which I just replaced. My DME told me this new mask only last 6mo, what gives....Why buy a new mask evey 6mo, 2 years was fine for me.

I got some really good advice (and cheap) from an RT about cleaning the mask. She said use baby shampoo and water. And to clean the cushion at least each morning. I've even used this same solution to clean my husbands headgear and long hose. She also said not to put the headgear in the dryer-oops!
So his masks have usually lasted about 8-9 months. Just depends on use and care, like anything else. Listen, if it costs $100.00 every 8 or 9 months for him (and me) to sleep good, its worth it!

Life of a Mask
Hello All,
The best or longest I would say is a year. 6 to 8 months is a standard manufacturer response. If you clean the silicone portion of the mask daily you should get as much as you can out of the mask. More importantly, you should look for signs of trouble after about 6 to 8 months of use.
Users usually don't associate a leaking mask as a sign of aging. The silicone wears, breaksdown and looses its sealing design. Plus the headgear could be stretched over time causing problems. Having to tighten your headgear tighter than normal, or tighter and tighter night after night means you are defeating the design and will end up hurting yourself and effecting your treatment.
Overall, my best suggestion is consider buying a new mask yearly. It is costly, but prices on the net are low and any experinced user will tell you effective equipment is key to happy and healthy treatment.
