CPAP & serious halitosis

Post by Reg » Sun Feb 06, 2005 1:27 pm

My husband has been using a CPAP machine with humidifier for the past 5 years or so. Over the past 6-9 months, however, he has developed very bad halitosis. His dentist ruled out periodontal disease. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem with the use of their CPAP machine? And does anyone have a recommendation to help us solve this problem?

Wow, It's funny but I think I have body odour that associated with apnea as well.

If by accident I sleep with my mask off,or have the mask come off, my armpits will start smelling foul. Usually I'm not a smelly guy
I just think that my body's PH levels or scent glands get affected, or something else gets outta whack. I don't know. Maybe your husbands mouth's ability to fight off bacteria is affected in the same way?

It's been 5 years right? when was the last time he had a sleep study? maybe his perscription has changed.

It's a big HMMMMMMM.....

The scent of OSA???

Post by derek » Sun Feb 06, 2005 3:01 pm

On http://www.sleepnet.com/thesandman.shtml the "Sandman", who is apparently an RT, talks about being able to detect who has OSA before a sleep test by a scent we sufferers apparently develop. Is this for real???

derek
A rOSA by any other name would smell as sweet...

Thanks for the responses & ideas. No, he is not on any medication. That's a great idea to go back to the sleep clinic for a checkup, since he hasn't been back to visit since the initial determination.

My husband suffers from halitosis so bad, people would back up...........he is not a 'pap'er. However, on QVC (I do not work for them, or sell or anything else), they have a product called ORAL B. It is a 2 liquid rinse system. He had nothing to lose, LORD knows we all wanted it to work for him (p.u.) and so he's been using it actually 3x's a day, and guess what IT WORKS. Check on QVC.com, and find the links and you can see it for yourselves. We get it on Auto delivery so we never ever run out. I can honestly tell you, it works, don't know why, how, or care, just try it. QVC should send me a gift basket full of it, haha.

Sorry to use the board to advertise....but this is to help us. I'm not noticing any odd ''odor's'' maybe something to look ''forward to.." P. U.
