Remstar Plus recommendations

Post by MichaelM » Fri Feb 04, 2005 10:51 am

Didn't want to clog up other threads with a product question.

Quick scenario: CPAP machine needed, pressure will be 8. During my first sleep study had trouble exhaling.

A potential new provider is suggesting I try first a Remstar Plus (not C-Flex apparently) with humidifier and if that does not work for me, then a BiPap machine.

Your thoughts on his recommendations equipment wise as well as regular CPAP first then to BiPap if needed?

Thanks

I also have trouble exhaling against the pressure.
My new machine is a Remstar Plus w/C-Flex, I love it and you will too!

Now if I could only find the right mask!!

Micheal,

You've come across some real winners. A BIPAP???? If the REMstar Plus they are offering you does not have C-flex it is and OLD unit. You'll know when they blow all the dust off of it. I have a REMstar Auto with C-flex, my PSG pressure is 7cm (very similar to yours) I set the C-flex on 3 (the highest setting) and when I exhale the pressure virtually disappears. To say you might need a BIPAP before you even tried the C-flex is absurd. Are these people just shooting from the hip? This is the kind of interactions I had while reserching DMEs and the reason I ultimately bought online.
Sincerely,

Wadingthruthemuck,

I appreciate your information. I am about to give up on this entire process and just informed by doctors nurse of the same.

I have now contacted a THIRD provider who, if to be believed, had no problem getting the machine and the mask I seek. (apparently its the C-Flex plus or pro w/humidifier and the Ultra Mirage FF mask. no one has ever mentional an auto)

This of course will take another week or so.

Mike

I have a remstar plus - also suggested to me by an equipment provider that was trying to dump off old stock, I'm stuck with it now - get the newer auto c-flex, Alot of folks here have told me it's great and that it self adjusts your pressure and it is compatible with software so you can monitor your progress, I'm saving my pennies for one now

I would simply ask for a bid on a specific unit . They can call you or not.

Then I would go to cpap.com

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1623

Cheers

crosp, if you are referring to me, I am not able to go that route. My llimit is the ability to select a provider approved by my insurance company, not get bids then purchase elsewhere.

Wondering if I have a choice and/or even the ability to select the auto C-Flex rather than the pro or plus.

Is there that much difference?

re cpap machines

I COULD NOT tolerate a regular cpap machine. I have a SUllivan Comfort Bipap and it is MUCH easier to tolerate. When I was first diagnosed the respiratory therapist who came to my house was next to usless! Some insurance companies won't pay for all or part of a certain machine. Mine wouldn't pay for the Bi-pap and I bought it myself. Good luck having sleep apnea is such a pain!!
