Swift/Headrest/CL2 - better today

For example, I get somewhat better oxygen saturation when using the Swift nasal interface than my other interfaces. I don't really know all the reasons why, but the effect is real and is not only not obvious in the Encore Pro data, it is not even there. The Encore Pro data simply doesn't show any real differences between my nasal interfaces.
I posted yesterday about my struggles with the Headrest, CL2 and feeling crummy.

I found Bill's evidence confirmed by my subjective experience. One night back on the Swift and I feel much better. I don't really understand it either but I have no doubts about it. I love how the Headrest permits ez side sleeping but, once again very subjectively, it is not as effective for me.

I'm curious if anyone has an idea as to why this might be so, or perhaps I am just nuts?

Which machine are you usin'?

Depending on your machine, you might have to change the pressure slightly when you change your mask.

I don't think you're nuts, SB. I think the reasons why one interface works better for some than others involves many variables. In my case, in order for the pillows to seal properly, it was necessary for me to make minor adjustments in sleeping position, such as how my head and jaw were positioned on the pillow.

Also, someone else posted recently about how the pressure difference being greater in the nostrils than outside with a pillows interface would hold the nostrils open better. That also makes perfect sense, and applies in my case, as I benefitted from "Breath Right" nasal strips when I first started xPAP.

The question for me is whether these are the only factors involved in my case. For others, I expect that different phenomenon occur causing the same sort of effects with different interfaces.

Regards,
Bill

Thanks Bill.

Ozij - Remstar Pro (not the 2). It doesn't give me any data. I think you are correct but I don't have a means to tell what the pressure should be, for the Headrest particularly for that is the one I would really like to get to work. I was also having trouble getting a seal the other night. It is really finicky. I tried to move the headgear up on my forehead and that changed the entire setup from what had been sealing. I used an equivalent to RG's panty hose trick but really did not like the "extra" thing on my face - might as well use the Swift then.

I'll keep plugging.

I know exactly how you fell when wanting to use the headrest - I fought it for almost a month, and would have given up if it weren't for jcarn's rubber band tweak (look for it if you don't know it).

I remember one of the posters found the Headrest was great - after she (he?) raised the pressure 1 cm.

Thanks,

I am using the rubber band tweak. I may need a stronger rubber band, or two. I also may try upping the pressure one. That makes sense to me as I look at how the hoses narrow as then descend to the actual interface.

I also may not have given the CL2 a fair chance yet but I need to catch up on sleep deficit before experimenting again so I'll stick back with the Swift for awhile.
