Re: Exchanging machines at DME+ Changing DME!!
Here's the "devils advocate answer" I guess...
I work for a DME company(RT) and we don't carry the resmed machines. They are too expensive for our company. We carry respironics. To be quiet honest with reimbursement rates going down the DME companies don't make a huge profit off the machines. I have met a lot of patients that think that just because they have a script or something does not work for them we should exchange/give them a new one. Sometimes its not that simple...recently a lady had her mask exchanged (30 day) but decided she did not like the new one either. She was well into her second month. She mentioned this and I told her that she would have to wait 1 more month for her insurance to cover a new one. She then told me she would tell her doctor we were not willing to work with her. This was after her original exchange, numerous visits etc.. As a DME you feel caught between a rock and a hard place. Anyway, Im not saying your doing this but not all DME's are evil-they are businesses that need to look out for the bottom line in this ever-changing reimbursment world we find ourselves in. BTW-American Home patient almost filed for bankruptcy recently and had to re-do their loan terms with their lenders. They are not rolling in money.
