Chin straps

Post by jab1972 » Thu Apr 26, 2012 8:00 am

One month in and things have been going pretty well. The last visit to the doc showed an elevated vibratory snore level, though, so she upped the pressure a notch, and the DME added a chin strap (https://www.cpap.com/productpage/premiu ... hleak.html). I wasn't waking up with a hurricane in my mouth, but there was drooling, so I figured it couldn't hurt.

The data for nights with the chin strap show much improved scores across the board: RDI, vibratory snores, leaks. But I find using the strap very uncomfortable. It feels a bit like my cheeks are being pushed into my eyes. And I'm waking up with marks that make it look like I have bags under my eyes.

Any thoughts on other chin straps that might squish my face less with my Mirage FX? Is it possible to MacGyver a chin strap to the lower straps of my headgear? Or maybe some other fix I haven't thought of?

I have a couple of chinstraps, but prefer the PapCap for comfort.

Cheers,

I fashioned a chinstrap out of Vetrap and it works great. It's flexible and stretchy and sticks to itself. Even doubled over, it fits well under the headgear. Couldn't be more comfortable and certainly cheaper than the alternatives. I order Vetrap from a Vet supplier but it can be found at farm & ranch supply stores if they carry supplies to doctor cattle and horses.

I also like the papcap. I've switched from FFM's to the Swift FX and the papcap allows me to anchor the small hose to the top of the papcap. I no longer have to fight the hose during the night, it has become a non-factor. Initially I was concerned that the papcap might be too hot to sleep in but that has not been the case at all. A little pricey but worth it as far as I'm concerned...Good luck.

I ordered a Premium Chinstrap among many things from our host and should get the package next week. Will give you an update once I get it.

You can now buy vet wrap at Walmart in the isle with the tape and bandaids. We used to have horses and I loved the stuff, used it on all kinds of things, saw it recently at Walmart and bought a roll. My daughter saw it at went nuts, my granddaughter saw the pretty colors and is using it for hairbands......now I have to go buy more ...raaatssss
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

SDV - I wondered the same thing about being too hot, but I think because it's 100% cotton and not all that heavy of a material, it isn't hot.

It's so versatile I can't imagine having less than 4 rolls in the bandage box, even though it's rarely used for bandaging these days as our horse days are behind us, darn it!
