Resmed Elite problems

Post by idahogal » Mon Mar 27, 2006 8:45 pm

A friend of mine has a Respmed Elite cpap with HH and a pressure of 14. He says that by morning he feels like he is fighting for breath and that the machine is not working. Could this be a machine problem or is it maybe a user issue? He is using an Ultra nasal mask. THanks

Susan,

First question that comes to my mind is to ask him if he's cleaned his filter lately.
If he got it from a local DME, he could go in and ask them to test it with a manometer.
On the other hand, if he's been using it for awhile, he MAY be getting used to the pressure. Many of us wake up in the morning wondering if the machine is putting out the right pressure. When that happens to me, I pull my mask a little ways from my face......Yep.....it's working.

Best wishes,

Den

Thanks Dan, I should have mentioned that he has taken it in and had it tested. I am going to assume that it is just him and tell him that he is just adjusted to the pressure. He says he still feels tired during the day but I have told him that he has a lot of repair work to do so to give it some time.

hi--your friend may have user problems of machine or mask or both. or he may have the wrong mask--and you can see from this forum that for most people there is no right mask, only the best mask. Another question is how much water is running through the humidifier. i have a resmed (an older one) but the cpap.com representative told me that if i my humidifier is almost out of water by morning, i have serious mask leaks. based on my experience, that is correct. i also am tired in the morning when i have serious mask leaks.

good luck.
