Have him change it to 3. That might or might not help. Keep us informed please.

If he doesn't know how to change it, ask here. I don't know, but someone will.

HI Linda,
Well, he changed the cflex but had to change it back..couldn't handle the change.
What I am noticing is his I/E ratio is about 4sec:1sec. That doesn't sounds normal to me. He woke up a little dizzy again this morning. I think it might be related to the I/E ratio. I think he needs a new sleep study.
Shouldn't his ration be 1:1?

back pain

I guess I'm being simplistic, but I haven't seen anybody else suggest leaving off the cpap one night and see if he gets the pain.

I don't know anything about the cflex machines, so the I/E mean nothing to me.

Herefishy, I think I read that when her husband got up and sat, that the pain went away.

Actually, herefishy,he did try one night without the cpap...had it back on by 4AM when he couldn't sleep without it. He was awake all night, tossing and turning and snoring to beat the band..the next day he was exhausted. He did have the pain still but not as intense.

Linda, What I mean by I/E is the timing of his Inspirations to exhalations. I think he is not able to blow off the CO2 effectively when he inhales for 4 seconds and then exhales for only 1 second before he inhales again..something is not right. I think this might be why he is dizzy but I don't get why this is now happening after 2.5 years???

Last night he took advil before going to bed to see if it might be helped if it was muscular and there was some relief . Now I am more worried about the morning dizziness which just lasts a few minutes.

pmj,

C-flex reduces the "E" (expiratory) pressure for just a very short portion of the cycle. Very perceptive of you to pick up on that, not already knowing that is the case. Some users have posted that C-flex has caused them to breathe in an unnatural rhythm. I have found this to be the case only when I am experiencing small leaks with my nasal pillow interface. You may want to make sure he is not experiencing slight leaks that are causing this.

Sincerely,

wading thru the muck,
I had no idea about that. he is using a brand new mask (1 week old).
So with cflex set at 1 this is normal?

One more time, I don't have cflex (yet), so take what I say with several grains of salt and common sense.

Perhaps he could try the machine with the cflex turned off. One night wouldn't hurt to experiment to see if the dizzyness is less severe.

And yes, a new mask might definitely be the cause of the dizzyness.

Also, how is his blood pressure?

Hi Linda,
His BP has been on the low side, especially since starting CPAP therapy.
The dizziness is new. I gave him a list of questions to ask the doctor today. I hope he has a chance to call. This is his busy tax time (accountant).

CPAP has been the best thing since sliced bread for him I hate to see him get discouraged! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all your suggestions!

I am not a physician but a bulging disk can cause back pain.

If one sleeps in one position rather than moving, back pain can occur. Doing some pelvic tilts and rolling the body from side to side helps warm up the back and may help.

Does your husband have allergy problems? If your husband has allergy problems and his ears become blocked, then dizziness can occur. He should do nasal rinses twice a day with non-iodized salt in warm water. Gerber makes a two piece baby irrigator. Rinse the irrigator several times after using to prevent mold from growing and be sure to check for mold. Do a search on nasal irrigation.
