Doing the pulse oximeter over the weekend

Post by Ritap1965 » Fri Mar 24, 2006 7:30 pm

I am really excited about using the pulse oximeter my doctor let me borrow this weekend.

Using my Remstar Auto and the software I have found that my best results and most comfortable sleep is with 12cm straight c-pap. I was titrated with 15 and had my auto setting for 13-16, and woke up sore every morning. After analyzing the numbers with Dereks wonderful software I found my best results on 12cm. Now I will use the oximeter for 3 nights and see if that is truly where I should be. I am planning on straight 12cm tonight with, auto 13-16 tomorrow, then straight 15cm on Sunday. Can't wait for the results.

Ok, I admit it, I am a total nerd.

How to go about doing this...

Rita~

Will you post more extensively on how you went about arranging this? did you ask your sleep doctor or sleep lab to borrow the monitor for a weekend? And if so, do I need to get a referral so my insurance company will pay for this? I am just curious to go about doing this myself. I am meeting with my sleep doc in another month and was curious how I can arrange the same deal as you.

Thanks, and good luck. Interested to hear back about your results.

Suzy

I called my sleep doctors office and asked if I could get a prescription for a pulse oximeter overnight study, and they said in their office I could borrow it from their office instead of going through a DME. Since I called on Thu, they set me up for Friday and I got the added benefit of having it over the weekend. I have to return it on Monday before noon or they will charge me $50 per day in late charges.

I believe most sleep doctors will either lend you the pulse oximeter or call in a prescription to a DME and have a DME set up an overnight study for you.
