im new, what is software 4?
Relax, tweety......yes you CAN do this, but for most folks it takes a while to learn, just like any life-changing endeavor. I know. I just been there & done that, like everyone else here. You've come to the right place! Now.....I'll turn you over to the folks who have more varied experience than I..........

I'm new.. what is software for?
Hi (from an ex- T.O.er) I think you've been given a mask that doesn't stay on well at all (had one, didn't work and lots of others agree with me). You need a regular nasal mask (unless you're a mouth breather in which case you'd need a different one) and a good one to start with might be Resmed's Ultramirage II - comes in lots of sizes, doesn't leak if fitted properly, and you can't block the vent holes by accident because they're located differently on the hose. Be assertive with whoever is fitting and providing you with masks, and be calm if you can. You have to wear it and it needs to be effective. If you don't like the idea of the nasal mask after trying it, ask to try a Mirage Swift, it's got similarities to the one you have now, but it's a lot more secure when it's on and therefore may be more effective. Just keep your cool - you waited this long to get diagnosed, now it's just a question of finding the right match, and it can take a while, but it's worth it in the end.

I'm new - what's software 4
Sorry, forgot your question! Some CPAP machines have 'Smart Cards' slotted in at the side - they're like debit cards but read all the info. on your machine and then your provider reads it periodically (every few mos. maybe) to see if the info. lines up with your experience, etc. Now, there are 2 computer programs (they go together) that will also read the info. if your card is placed in a 'card reader' (little device) and you get printouts of the info. on your computer... tables, graphs, etc. of the techie stuff. However, in the first place, the software's been taken off the market by the mfgr., it would be quite expensive to buy otherwise, and the card reader is also hard to get hold of (but can be done). Also the printouts can be confusing for newbies (and even olbies sometimes), and so I suggest that you not concern yourself about all that for now, and just try to get sorted out with the mask and all. If the time comes down the road that you understand more about the whole thing (from reading up on the forum), and are sleeping more consistently, etc. then maybe consider doing the readouts - people here (and me) can help you get set up if the time comes.
