Question about EncorePro Installation

Post by mousetater » Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:42 am

Just got my equipment yesterday. Trying to install EncorePro software. I have reached the screen called Secure the Server. I have 3 choices here: 1) Disable the SA account, 2) Leave the SA account alone (Use a blank SA password, 3) Provide the SA password followed by fields to set up the password.

Since I am using this just for myself, and not in a medical office, etc., I don't feel like I need a password for the data. I would think I would choose to Leave the SA account alone, but by default Disable the SA account was checked, which in many software packages means that is the default recommended.

Does anyone have any insight on this. "Disable" makes me think I won't be able to get to the data.

Quick responses appreciated because I am in the middle of the installation.

I chose option 2. Option 3 I believe allows the confidential information to stay confidential assuming your in an office enviroment. Not sure about option 1.

Thanks for the quick response. I will go with Option 2 also, as it makes the most sense to me as well.

I don't have the Encore software, but I recall that it is based on a database server that is quite vulnerable to some common viruses if you don't change the SA password. I'd make the effort to work out option 1 or 3, you're just not safe with option 2. If you carefully write down the password and do option 3 I'd bet you'd be fine. Better to do it right up front than have to go in and fiddle with it down the road.

Leave the SA password blank. Option 2. Setting a password will give you at LEAST one headache down the road.
