wondering if this is normal: when i sleep at night its like i go into a coma. my brother was at my house the other morning and broke a bunch of dishes, i never heard it. this week my garage, which is right below my room was broken into, they didnt take much but made a real mess.got numerous complaints from friends and brother that they have tried to wake me and cant.
my other problem is i feel great all day but around 2:30 pm i go downhill instantly, headache,no energy,i feel like i did before cpap and its like that till i wake the next morning
i'm using a remstar/pro2 with oxygen machine at 1. i feel 100% better during the day until 2:30
my doctor said this is normal and the way i feel goes by the amount of sleep i get, he said if i want to fell better longer to sleep longer. well if i could i would, i get about 7hrs of sleep a night
sorry for the long post but i have to figure out something.
a few questions
this is a lot like what i posted under cpap insomnia, only i take it that you get more than a few hours of sleep each night. i also sleep so soundly that anything can go on around me and i don't wake. there is no alarm clock or even combination of alarm clocks made that is powerful enough to wake me if i want/need to sleep. the best i have been able to do is to use a radio alarm tuned to the loudest station and attached to my stereo speakers and turned up all the way combined with a timer set on a brite light made for those with SAD and pointed directly and close to my bed. still, there are times when i have slept long past all of this, and the radio alarm blares for an hour. close friends laugh at me at parties because i have been known to fall asleep on the couch during a party and awake only when i want to. i also have no recollection of anyone trying to wake me up.
(i only do this with close friends and family who know this about me.
the sleep doc said i am narcoleptic, probably caused by my heavy snoring during nighttime sleep. the test for narcolepsy is the daytime drowsiness test where they let you sleep as long as you want at night, then when you say you are rested, they wake you at four 20-minute intervals, i believe, that also allow you to sleep each time for 20 minutes, and then you have to stay awake for 20 minutes each of four times. the doc said they had never had anyone so difficult to wake and keep awake for 20 minutes before. i told the tech the only way i could stay awake was if they let me smoke a cigarette, and the doc told the tech to take me outside for a cigarette!
for me, cpap, when successful, has allowed relatively normal awakening, so i think the sleep doc was right.
