at last some results

Post by lostmary » Fri Jan 27, 2012 7:04 pm

well, it's been a busy day. finally got things worked out. after a lot of calling, I managed to get to the manager of the sleep center at the hospital. well, she had answers pretty fast for me. not the ones I wanted, but still, at this point I'll take any answers. It seems cpap will not work for me. THere is a new machine that helps you breath and keeps track of how long between breaths. it seems my brain doesn't remember to tell me to inhale and exhale. and not just occasionally. so I go for another sleep study this sunday nite and they will try one of the two machines that are made for this. they are the newest of the cpap type machine. I know this doesn't bode well for me but what can you do

No that is absolutely great! Other people here are on those machines. Many have had to "fail" cpap for months before they got there.

It is called Central Sleep apnea. Look up the member JohnFisher or do a search for CSA

I'm hoping to make sense of the information I've been able to get about the new machines. I go for another sleep test tomorrow nite and according to what I was told I should have the new system in my hand by Tue. I spent part of the day yesterday depressed about the results. after the stroke, brain swelling, and heart attack, i really just wanted something normal and easy and just get back to normal. I know i' was just having a bad day. Sometimes I'm so afraid of dying again and not getting the help I need to stay alive. at least the hospital jumped thru their hoops yesterday. as they were jumping so fast and so high, I have to think that my results weren't very good. I haven't seen any results yet of anything. hopefully I will get everything by tue. I will do what ever i have to to stay alive. drs said no nose spray again or i could die. never used it again. if the dr said learn to walk around bent over I would learn and comply. anything I should know about this new machine and what I need.?

Good luck. You sure have been through a lot. Give yourself time to grieve the changes in your health.

I replied on your other post about the newest models of ASV machines. I am on one and many others are, too. They are a blessing for those of us with central apnea.

BlackSpinner is absolutely correct! It is good that they diagnosed you correctly. I did my second sleep study 3 nights ago to get titrated to ASV for Central Apnea. I will be getting the same ASV as my wife (teknomom) above has. I am so happy that you lived through the bad stuff and are now going to get good therapy!

Life can be unpredictable. Two weeks ago I was on in the hospital on IV morphine for fresh pulmonary embolisms-blood clots to both lungs. A routine office visit the day before to my pulmonologist's office to ask about my new diagnosis of severe pulmonary hypertension led to a chest CT that showed multiple old P.E.s and two fresh ones. Thank God for an excellent Doctor and medical care. Coumadin for 6 months or the rest of my life is a small price I will gladly pay.

Good luck on the ASV!
