Before sleep apnea, I was accustomed to getting 7 hours sleep every night and functioning well. Even 6 hours.
Since starting on my ASV, I've been getting 9 to as much as 10 hours sleep every night.
I figured that I needed it...you know, maybe I'm catching up, the sleep debt thing needed to be paid back. I thought that the more sleep I got, the better I'd feel. But in fact, one of my problems I've had over the past 7 months, is even though I was far better than pre-ASV, I was still waking up feeling like I was run over by a truck. It would take me 3 or 4 hours to really become a functioning, cognitive human being. I'm trying everything to figure out why I just can't get this last piece of the puzzle fixed.
Well, the past 3 nights I've been waking up earlier and sleeping closer to my old norm....about 7 to 7-1/2 hours. I notice too that I feel better waking up and am getting going a lot more quickly. Maybe this is the missing piece I've been looking for? Maybe I was just sleeping too much?
I don't know, but I sure as heck hope so and will continue to try and wake up after only 7 or so hours of sleep.
More sleep = feel like sh*t?
More sleep = feel like sh*t?
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

I think you are probably right. I've been on APAP treatment now for about 2 months, and I was clearly catching up sleeping not as long as you, but longer than before. But... now I can't sleep as long, even if I wanted too. If I go to bed at midnight and set the alarm to 8 or even 7, I won't make it that far, I'll be up naturally before then. Last night was only 5.5 hrs. I think my sleep debt payment queue is full, at least for the moment. Maybe later I can sleep longer again. I don't exercise enough, "driving a keyboard" too much I feel like crap these days, no matter how long I sleep.

Ken, I hope this is a big part of the answer for you! I've been sleeping a lot longer every night since I started my ASV. I figured I needed it. I'll have to pay attention to how it makes me feel during the day.

Ken, again we seem to have the same struggles. Maybe there is a "sweet spot" for amount of time to sleep in this factor as well.
I used to only get about 6 hours sleep average a night. Even if my numbers were good that night, I still felt like you, hard to get out of bed, takes a few hours to wake up fully etc. Last week I changed my routine and go to bed earlier, but wake up earlier as well, so now I'm getting 7 hours a night and have been feeling FANTASTIC lately. Even had a 10. the other day, and didn't seem to slow me down in the least. I know controlling how long you sleep is very difficult but it has made a world of difference so far in my case. I was going to post about this "amount of sleep" factor as well, but waited until I was sure that part was making such a difference.
I hope this is the last piece of the puzzle for you and can cruise along from now on. Keep Letting us know how your doing and any conclusions you think are relevant in our elusive journeys.

Re: More sleep = feel like sh*t?
I worked with one person who would get migraines if he slept more the 8 hours. I know when I was young and pre OSA I could not sleep in on the weekends without feeling "hungover" even if I wasn't drinking.
