I'm New, but reading to learn as much as I can from this site. Now that I have got the hang of my mask and reading
my AHI, I was wondering.....how or is it possible to read from my machine what 'type' of events I'm having?
During my sleep study I was told I was having 40+ arousals per hour. Oxygen level fell to 89%.
Now that I'm home with machine my AHI has improved from 4.7 to 2.2 as of this morning.
Does this mean I'm having 2.2 events per hour with machine, but would go back to having possibly 40+ per hour without
machine??
Also, can we know what kind of events we having?? Like if its the Central kind, Obstructive kind or just a very Shallow
Breathing kind?? I don't know why this is important to me, why should it matter, they all are dangerous, but for whatever
reason I want to know what 'kind' I'm having if its possible for me to know. I hope I made sense....
Thanks in advance. Means so much and I promise to give back to this forum/others once I get the hang of this down the road.
Obstructive, Central or just shallow breathing
Obstructive, Central or just shallow breathing
Lord help me to remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that you and I together cant handle.
Re: Obstructive, Central or just shallow breathing
Yep, it is an ongoing treatment or therapy and not a cure. Without the machine you go right back to doing what you did without the machine....stopping breathing.daisy56 wrote:Does this mean I'm having 2.2 events per hour with machine, but would go back to having possibly 40+ per hour without

The machine with software use will tell you which type of event you are having. The data available on the LCD screen on the machine will only tell you AHI average during last 7 and 30 nights. On screen data sucks.daisy56 wrote:Also, can we know what kind of events we having?? Like if its the Central kind, Obstructive kind or just a very Shallow

So get SleepyHead (check my signature for links and information) and you will see what I mean...here is an example of my report from Dec 31. You can get this and a lot more. My machine is a model different but overall report will be the same with your machine.

Re: Obstructive, Central or just shallow breathing
Congratulations, you're cured!
Just kidding, however, an AHI reading of 2.2 to 4.7 is quite good. As long as it stays down in that range, and you don't have any problems, relax and be happy.
Yes, you'll probably go back to a higher AHI if you stop CPAP.
Getting the software and learning how to read it is a good thing. Don't obsess about lowering your AHI any further. Don't obsess if you have a few bad nights.
