HELP!!

Post by Boltsy » Tue Dec 27, 2011 5:56 pm

Hi everyone,
I have just been diagnosed with Severe OSA 3 weeks ago and have been given the CPAP machine with the new quattro mask. I have been trying really hard to sleep with this thing on, but have only managed to have 2 nights out of 3 weeks where it has not been a problem.
The main issue is not the pressure of air, but the mask. If i move around when asleep, the seal seems to break at some point and i get cold air blowing up my nose or in an eye or generally across the face somewhere. This wakes me up and i cannot get back to sleep.
Can anyone recommend a better type of mask which doesn't do this as i cannot afford to buy numerous masks until i find one that works. I am worried that i have to go back to hospital for a check and if i am not getting this sorted out, i may loose my driving liscence / job. (This cannot happen)

Thanks

To me it sounds like you need a mask refit. It took me 4 tries to get the right mask for myself. I had trouble with the Quattro FX as well; It seemed to slide around on my face during the night. I finally ended with the Mirage Quattro full face mask, this is the one with the forehead pad with the adjustment dial. I can adjust that dial until I get a good seal on the bridge of the nose. The forehead rest also makes a good anchor point for the mask and I rarely have issues with it. It seemed to slide around on my face during the night.

I would contact the people you got your equipment from and see what they can do to help you out. It will take you a bit to find out what works for you.

Go back to the place where you got your mask ASAP! All the major mask manufacturers offer a 30-day return policy, so in theory you should be able to keep trying masks until you find one that works. Now, if you try 10 and still haven't found one that works, the DME is not going to be amused. But trying a couple different masks should be no problem for any reasonable DME. But do it soon, because if you've had this mask for 3 weeks already, you're getting near the exchange deadline.
