Heavy head/ Air in head feeling

Hello,

Writing from India. Today was the second night my father, aged 70, newly diagnosed with apnea, tried the Respironics BIPAP BIFLEX machine.

He was quite irritable in the morning and says his head feels heavy and as though there is air in his head. Is this a common experience.

Also, he sometimes suffers from vertigo, so would this machine have any effect on that ?

Hi Deepak, Maybe you can tell him there will be subtle changes for a while. We often have 'off' nights even without cpap so it is hard to know what to attribute the different feelings to. I have vertigo but have no idea whether cpap makes a difference. I have been on cpap for over 5 years so I can't really remember the beginning but tell him to keep telling you the little changes he feels so you can have an understanding (people here more experienced than I am can let you know if they are significant. I just know that if he hangs in there and tries to adapt he will benefit in the end.

Deepak, I am also new to CPAP, going on my 3rd night. As for what he's feeling, I would venture to guess it may just be "normality." Just after my first two days, I can't believe how much different I feel. I must have just been a "walking zombie" as they say. My advice is to give it some time, and if he's really concerned or is thinking of stopping, to talk to his doctor.
