Kind of a dumb question
Kind of a dumb question
I've begun trying to extract information from my machine. When it says AHI seven day average, does it mean average per hour, per night, or is that number for the whole seven days? What's a good number? Mine is 1.6.
Re: Kind of a dumb question
They say that there are no dumb questions, and the only dumb questions are the ones that I ask.
1.6 is great...awesome. Anything 5 or under is considered normal (even people without sleep apnea have events and could score a 5 or under). I believe the score is just an overall average for all the nights combined. You might have a .5 one night, 2.3 another, 1.2 another, etc etc .
Keep up the good work!
BTW, if you edit your other post, you can delete it and that thread will be gone...but do it before someone else replies to it, then it will be permanent.

Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Re: Kind of a dumb question
It is an hourly average based on the hours the machine has been on during that 7 day period. There is also a 30 day average.
If you want to see a night by single night of data then you would need some software.
The data on the LCD screen's of the Respironics machines suck. There is a whole lot more to what the machines gather.
Check out SleepyHead software in my signature. There is even a Mac version if your computer is a Mac.
I think you will be pleased with the additional information available.
And yes, to agree with Ameriken....1.5 AHI is great. It is the hourly average of Apneas & Hyponeas.

Good work! 1.6 is your average AHI for the week.
There are no dumb questions, except "should I quit?".

Re: Kind of a dumb question
For a complete understanding of both what that 7-day average AHI means AND how your System One calculates it, you can read my blog entry Understanding how the 7-day and 30-day average AHI's are computed
And a long term AHI = 1.6 is pretty good---well under the 5.0 line for "effective treatment". So if you are feeling like you're sleeping well and you're feeling good during the daytime, you can take that AHI = 1.6 as an indicator that your CPAP is working as intended.

Re: Kind of a dumb question
The trouble is that I'm not sleeping well--I've been up a lot the last two nights and I'm running tired, so I've been sifting through the machine info trying to figure out why because I don't see the doc for another three weeks. The sleepyhead software is crashing on me when I try to load data.robysue wrote:For a complete understanding of both what that 7-day average AHI means AND how your System One calculates it, you can read my blog entry Understanding how the 7-day and 30-day average AHI's are computed

Re: Kind of a dumb question
I had that happen only once. A repeat attempt to upload the data was successful for me though. I didn't even have to reinstall SleepyHead.Carmen wrote:The sleepyhead software is crashing on me when I try to load data.
What Windows version are you using? Is your computer 32 or 64 bit? If SleepyHead won't work for you do you want to try Encore?

I use a Mac. I'll give it another try when I'm in the mood to reload the thing.Pugsy wrote:I had that happen only once. A repeat attempt to upload the data was successful for me though. Did you get the download from the main page that had the download button in green?Carmen wrote:I use a Mac. I'll give it another try when I'm in the mood to reload the thing.
That is the Windows version.
There is a Mac build.
Look for Jimbo's Mac build here...http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyhead/files/
Other Mac users are using it just fine.
