SleepyHead Pre-Beta for OS X

Post by Breathe Jimbo » Wed Oct 05, 2011 11:32 am

A new build of SleepyHead is available for OS X at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyh ... %20Builds/?

This new build adds and changes a lot, so please poke around, try everything, and report all bugs and other problems. You can create additional profiles using the same data imported into your first profile. This should not affect your main profile. Different profiles should be completely segregated. Most preferences are set on a per-user basis and saved in the profile for the relevant user.

You will almost certainly need to delete your SleepApp folder, so you might as well just do it and then reimport your data.

To be informed of future updates, please subscribe to the sleepyhead-devel mailing list at:

https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/lis ... head-devel

You may need to create a sourceforge account first.

You can find the new build at:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepy ... %20Builds/

This should fix some problems with ResMed S9 VPAP ASV data. Please report all problems with ASV data on the sleepyhead-devel mailing list.

Other S9 users should test this build to ensure that no problems have been introduced for our less complicated data. No need to report back unless new problems are encountered.

Future SleepyHead updates will be announced on the sleepyhead-devel mailing list, which you can join at:

https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/lis ... head-devel

You may need to create a sourceforge account first.

I downloaded this version without problems (0.8.6-2).
The importing problem seems to be fixed.
I imported the data but only for 31 days (there is about 50 days worth of data on the card).
Also (less important) the sleepy sheep icon is MIA - only a generic app icon shows up.

Apart from these minor issues it seems like everything is working fine.
Thank you for all your work on this project - it is very much appreciated.

I SH

The links that I provide are strictly for Macs, but you can find the current windows build on the same web site. When you go to sourceforge, the web site should detect your OS and point you to the current build for your OS.

I skipped the sheep icon for this last one. It is not essential.

If you have not done so already, please join the sleepyhead-devel mailing list. See instructions above.

Mark has been busy. You can download a new build for Mac OS X at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyh ... g/download

See the release notes on the welcome page for key changes and enhancements. As always, please poke around, discover the new features, test everything, and report bugs so that Mark can squash them.

At the risk of mind-numbing repetition, please join the sleepyhead-users or sleepyhead-devel mailing list, or both, at sourceforge:

https://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=513997

You probably need to create a sourceforge account before you can subscribe to one or both mailing lists. You are more likely to catch Mark's attention on one or both mailing lists than here.

Any chance you could implement the sparkle framework one of these days?

Sparkle is Mac only, so it will probably never be used. Mark is writing cross-platform code for Linux, Windows, and Mac.

A new Mac build of SleepyHead, ver. 0.8.8, is available on SourceForge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyh ... %20Builds/

This is an "almost beta" drop. Mark has done so much so quickly that it is hard to keep in mind all the changes and enhancements. Therefore, please poke around, look in all the nooks and crannies, test everything, and report all bugs and problems so that Mark can fix them and make SleepyHead even better than it already is.

The report/printing system has been rewritten and should be tested thoroughly, with and without the anti-aliasing preference turned on. Printing is forced to high resolution on Mac OS X due to some QT issues, so the high resolution checkbox is both checked and greyed out. Please give both paper printing and PDF generation a thorough workout. Even if something was working before and does not appear to have undergone any visible changes, test it again.

Mark has made it easier to reimport data, without needing to delete the entire SleepApp folder and recreate your profile from scratch. See the new Data menu. However, DO NOT USE THE ADVANCED OPTION TO PURGE DATA UNLESS YOU HAVE A GOOD BACKUP FROM WHICH TO REIMPORT YOUR DATA.

Mark has also done a lot of work on the oximetry stuff. If you have a supported oximeter, give the new code a whirl. See the oximetry preferences tab for more information.

And, most importantly, have fun as you look for bugs and problems!

If anyone downloaded the new Mac drop within the last 90 minutes, please download the latest one again. Mark just discovered and fixed a printing/PDF pagination bug. Please always test the latest version.

Please see the immediately preceding post for the download link.

Mac or Win version? If Mac version, then there may be something seriously wrong with your Mac for the hard drive to crash. If all you did was reinstall the OS and software, you may still have the underlying hardware problems. Please provide more information about your platform, OS version, setup, exactly what you were doing when a crash occurred, etc.

In case of a software crash, OS X generates a crash report. Please send all crash reports to Mark (jedimark). Look for crash reports in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/. Frankly, you shouldn't even be using SleepyHead at this early stage in its development unless you are committed to providing complete information about all bugs and problems, especially crashes. That is how free, open-source programs are made better.
