CPAP PRO or NAII?

Post by MissAmethyst2U » Wed Mar 08, 2006 10:51 pm

Ok, so I am off to the devil doctor tomm (Yeah my new name for her ) and I have high expectations this time! We have a lot to talk about including my sleep study I want explained to me, it's time for a new mask, and I think I might need to have my pressure redone which I am hoping will end up being send me home with an APAP through the weekend kinda deal and also she is gonna know just how upset I was with her rudeness regarding my weight last time. Yes she is my doc and yes she is looking out for me but there is a polite way of saying things and it has really truly bothered me since and I want her to know how uncomfortable she made me!

Anyway, back to the main topic. I cannot get the Aura(Headrest) as nobody who takes my insurance (I have Medicaid since I am on SSI) Nobody even seems to have heard of the Aura(Headrest) so I have chose two more masks to ask about and they are the CPAP PRO and the NAII... Anyone wanna give me their input on these?

For the CPAP PRO...Is the mouthpiece really bulky and go really far far back in your mouth? I tend to have a bad gag reflex if things go too far back in my mouth. From the looks of it I don't think I would have a prob with it and it looks like honestly it would be GREAT for me if the nasal thingys stay in place and dont really leak. I could finally be mark free on my face!

For the NAII...I think I would love this one too as it has the same kind of tubing the CC has and I love it but I havn't always seen good things on this board about it. I know every mask is diff for everyone and I am a perfect example of that as I LOVE my CC! Which most ppl hate lol...

I plan to ask which one of these if either my DME has. I am guessing I prob can't get the CPAP PRO with what it costs it seemed pretty pricey so I am sure that might be out but I will ask anyway. I also have to order more filters and am going to check into a 8' or 10' tubing for the PB420s as when I have a cold or allergies or whatnot and use my FF mask I only have the 6' of tubing and I have done pulled my machine off the nightstand sooo many times I am lucky the darn thing still works and I cant put it in the floor cause my bed is kinda high and all and I am sooo used to having like 11' of hose lol since I use the CC!

Thanks!

If I couldn't get the Aura, I would go for the Breeze nasal pillows, or the Swift.

I've read that in-the-mouth devices aren't comfortable - they make the teeth and jaws hurt.

The NasalAire II is okay. Many here like them. But if noise bothers you, you would be better off with the Breeze.

I have the swift I hate it! it hurts my nose the headgear leaves marks on my face too and the way the air vents are I have rolled over on them at night then wake up all dizzy. I am not sure hnow the vents are on the two masks I was referring to they could be the same but every mask is diff and they are the only ones I see that I think I could like plus I am trying to eliminate headgear as much as poss or anything that can leave marks.

Edited to add: When looking at the Breeze adn even for the Aura I wasnt sure I was gonna like cause i dont like the hose over my head like with the swift so I wasnt sure I would do well with it but everyone seemed to like the Aura so I tried to get one with no luck thats why decided on these two.

I am sorry if this is confusing I am way too tired and falling asleep sitting here trying to send out a few emails since I havnt really been online the past few days but its time for bed now lol...

The Nasalaire II are prongs - meaning they fit up into your nostrils. They must fit quite snug otherwise the aire escapes back out your nares. When I say snug, I mean Ubangi snug. After I wore them for 3 years, I really felt that my nostrils flared out all day long. They are now starting to look more normal to me since I've been on the Aura for over a month.

The exhaust vents are just below your nose, blowing down and out. If your arm is outside the covers, the exhaust hits them. If you are facing your bed partner, it hit him.

Several members here like the Nasalaire. It was fine for me for 3 years until I found this forum and knew better. But your're right, there aren't any straps across your face.

As a user of a Somnomed MAS (Mandibular Advancement Splint) dental device, I can tell you that any tooth soreness is initial. After you get used to it (~2-3 days) the pain/soreness subsides and the devices usually are quite comfortable, but keep in mind personal tolerance and preference are speaking here.

As for TMJ, that is another issue. If someone has an underlying jaw problem, then any type of oral device could aggravate it. Just another lovely thing we have to think of in the whole picture of OSA.

I will keep that in mind Swordz, I have TMJ, I didn't think about whether it would bother that or not. I mean with the CC I occasionally have pain with the TMJ aggravated I think by the CC Cheek pads but its rare...

If the Swift made your nose sore, then it is a good chance that any nasal pillow type interface will too. I found that I cannot tolerate nasal pillows. Did not have this problem with CC but couldn't stop the leaks. CPAP- Pro is a nasal pillow where NAII is a nasal prong which might not aggravate your nose as much.

Ofcourse lately I have been finding that snuggling into my Activa has been fine.

The face marks can be eliminated with the padacheek covers. I have them and I no longer get face marks. Of course that doesn't help with your other swift problems.
