Question about S9 SD card

Don't have an S9 yet. Just inquiring.

If you pull the SD card on an S9 to send it to a DME (for example) and you stick another SD card in there while the first one is gone.... does the S9 repopulate the SD card with all of the information that's on the other one?

And if that's not the case... can you simply create a duplicate of the SD card before you send it to the DME?

I ask because *IF* I get an S9 and *IF* they require me to send them the card, I want to make sure I'm not missing detailed data while that card is gone.

It's my understanding that the S9 will write the summary/compliance data to a new card if you insert one, so you can substitute the current card for any 1 GB sd card if you send it in to the DME. If you swap back in the original card when you get it back, it will again write the summary data to that card.

It's difficult to create a duplicate card, however, as the S9 is very fussy and wants files written in a certain order on the card.

Well, I've never tried it with an SD card, but I'm guessing if I got one the same capacity and type, I could do a sector copy to produce an exact duplicate. Linux makes that pretty easy on other media. I can't think of a reason why an SD card would be any different.

You can set the card to read-only, pop it in your machine, and copy the data to the HDD. The S9 does use a FAT32 file system, but it does something funky to the partition table, never figured out what. It can be read on any PC/Mac/Linux rig, but trying to write to the thing results in the card getting formatted again when you stick it in the machine.

Yardbird, Once you have the data in your resscan patient file, you don't need it on the card anyway. The card only keeps 7 days of detailed data, so it needs to be loaded into resscan at least that often.
When my DME wanted my card, I dropped it off and he gave me a new card.

Use SleepyHead instead of Resscan. You can simply copy the data from the SD card to your hard disk and you'll always be able to access it, as long as you have backups.

With Resscan, if you change PC's, have a hard disk crash or reinstall, you might lose your old data.

You just back up your patient file the same way you back up your sd card. Sleepyhead is great for PRS1 users, but I don't see why S9 users would use it until it' s more refined. Unless you just enjoy following the build or have hardware compatability issues.

No, its not fussy at all.

What it is... is a dedicated process control system not a general purpose computing device. A S9 only need to know enough about the FAT file system on the SD card to be able to write fixed format data to it, and read fixed format data from it. ResScan know what to do in term of writing data to the SD card that the S9 can read. and that's all the S9 system needs to perform its intended purpose.

"Copying" of SD cards is just something way outside resonable system use parameters.

Sleepyhead is exactly the same as ResScan in that respect.
