Masks & Fibro Pain

This might be an odd question, but does anyone have Fibro & deal with facial pain off & on? Last night I masked up & I took the mask off about as fast...Felt like my face was on fire. If this happens to you, what do you do? I am finally moving forward with hrs. & don't want this to slow me down....

Kaiya2465, I was hoping someone with more cpap experience would chime in because I'm a cpap newbie - but I've had severe fibromyalgia for over 20 years now, so maybe I can answer your question with more questions: Are you certain that what you experienced with the facial pain was your fibro? Have you ever had bouts of facial pain before?

Reason I ask is because as you probably know all too well, once you have fibro it's easy to attribute just about any new symptom to it, when sometimes it's not related at all.

If it really burned but stopped as soon as you removed the mask, that sounds more like a chemical/contact sensitivity of some sort. I'm wondering if you might have used something different to clean the mask, or not gotten the soap or whatever rinsed off after cleaning? Or could you have developed an allergy to silicone?

Or - did you by any remote chance handle hot peppers that evening? (Don't laugh too hard - I know this one by personal experience )

Hi Rocket girl:: I have a routine for cleaning my mask, & thanks for the giggle but I don't like hot peppers so that is out.
I had not thought about maybe developing an allergy to silicone. This is not an every night occurance so that is what prompted me to ask this question. Sadly I am not new to Cpap, I have actually been arguing with this for two yrs. Just recently am I understanding why I have not been compliant all this time.

Now that I have been moving up in hrs again & have that understanding, I am not willing to go backwards. Thank you for the suggestions for me to figure out. As of right now my face has that feeling so I am hoping I can just deal with it. I am thinking on trying those liners I keep hearing about to see if it may soften the feel....

I've had fibro for nearly 20 years; I started PAPpy in August. I have never had face pain, so I don't have any specific suggestions. But, I was wondering if you have tried any other masks. I know that some folks on this site have two maks that they use alternately. It might not hurt to try a different mask.

I don't know how you have adjusted to fibro, but lately I am finding it to be a pain in the rear -- it has settled for now in my right hip.

I have different masks, but I am trying to stick with the Swift FX (hers) it is less mask on my face. Less pressure with this one.,,I see my primary tomorrow, so hopefully we will come up with some ideas.

You may want to try a mask liner to test out the theory of a reaction to the mask. http://www.remzzzs.com/category-s/50.htm OR http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html and some folk on the forum have given directions to make 'homemade' liners. Do a search for those.....
