problems with DME

Post by CA Newbie » Thu Nov 17, 2011 1:00 am

Has anyone had a problem with a Medicare CPAP supplier and then been unable to switch to another supplier? After 9 months of problems with my DME (ticked off because I insisted on a S9 because of noise problems I guess) I went back to my sleep MD for new prescription, 1 for a new DME for the supplies and one to continue the monthly payments to the current supplier on the S9 until it is paid off in January. When I tried to reorder supplies with the new DME I was told that I could not change my supplies provider until the S9 was paid off in January. They said it was a Medicare rule not to deal with 2 different providers. I called my Sleep MD and the office admin said not true, I called Medicare and they said not true but the new DME selected by my MD will not provide me the service and I have not been able to find another one locally. Any idea what is going on here.

Why does the MD need to choose your DME. Get a copy of your prescription and shop around on your own. By the way, I think the DME is right and you will need to wait until January.
