S9 & Hybrid Mask question

Post by Perrybucsdad » Sun Nov 13, 2011 3:53 pm

For those of you who have the S9 PAP device and also use a hybrid mask, what setting do you put the device on with regards to the Full Face Mask vs Nasal in the one setting on the S9? I plan on ordering a hybrid to see if I can get better response but just curious what the device treats this as. Also why does it matter? What does this setting actually do?

Full face. I tried one once and the DME said full face.

ResMed subtracts a predetermined intentional vent rate before reporting leak rate.
Each mask type will have a different vent rate at the same pressure setting.
Full face masks have a higher vent rate than my nasal pillows mask at say a pressure of 10 cm.
Having the wrong mask type selection may impact the actual leak numbers reported and thus perhaps give someone a false sense of security but otherwise..it doesn't do anything else. Leak might be a little more or less if wrong mask type is chosen.

The RespCare Hybrid mask vents a little more than any ResMed FFM, so use the FFM setting (can't remember the name).
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM
Never, never, never, never say never.
