Can't Seep

Post by Merryj » Sat Nov 12, 2011 8:59 am

without my CPAP! Only been using since September 2nd, but it doesn't feel like I can sleep without it. Didn't think I would take to it so easily!

WHen I first started using CPAP, I hated it with such a passion. I worked at it every day. Had a hard time falling asleep, hard time staying asleep, I just had to move an inch & the hissing from the mask leak would start. At this point I was using a nasal mask. The bridge of my nose was really sore & marked in the morning. I would take it opff half way into the night.

I then bought my firt nasal pillow mask. IT made a big difference, especially since I am a side sleeper. THere were still some issues & I still could not stay asleep. After many months I threw in the towel.

I was just so exausted. I had a high AHI, I was sleep deprivated, I felt horrible. I said to myself, lets try this one more time. From the moment I said that, it took me 2 months to actually begin using it again. There were 4 things different for me this time. 1. I was just so exausted & depressed. Like never before. 2. I had no life. I did not want to do anything. Things that were important to me, no longer were. Nothing seemed to matter, I felt foggy headed, detached, memory sucked & angry a lot. 3. I invested in a different mask, even though, looking back, The first pillow mask I used, just before stopping was better then the nasal mask I first had. 4. I planned to go to sleep, only when I was really tired. I would not lay down until I was, (at the beginning of the second attempt at cpap).

Just minutes after I put on the mask, I was out. I would wake once a night to go to washroom, unlike before, where I ws going 5 & 5 times a night. Now, I do not even notice it any more. I sleep really well, I still get up once a night, but thats ok. I really do not mind it at all now. I just need to find a way of keeping the hose higher up, so the mask does not get tugged on, when I switch form my right side, to my left. The new mask I used the first time I started up again, was the Swift FX, which is probably why I like it so much. IT gives me no trouble what so ever. I just need to get my numbers down, in reference to another post I made here about AHI's. I will do get them down. I am determined. IF I need to get hold of a s9 autoset to do it, so be it.

I never thought I'd ever adjust to xpap, but I have. When you look at why you need to use it, while making small changes, like masks, attitude, pat your self on the back each morning that you use the machine & before you know it, wham, it just happens. Kinda like love, not really sure of the moment it happened, but it does.
