Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

I went to my doctor today and told him I have been very tired lately, he asked if I was still using my cpap. I said yes every night. After his examination he told me I need endoscopic sinus surgery for polyps in my nasal pasage.
Has anyone had this done and did it help.. I have no health insurance right now so it will be out of pocket. I am sure such surgery is not cheap and told it may just be a temporary fix anyway.... Wandering what to do!!!

I had several polyps removed in Spring 2010. At the same time I had a deviated septum repaired. The surgery was really painless but you may have bleeding for much of the day. I had no problems breathing prior to the surgery so it really made no difference in my CPAP usage. I went home about an 90 minutes after the surgery.

I imagine it will cost many thousands of dollars for this surgery.... if the prognosis is questionable, I think I'd wait.

I have a slightly deviated septum but not deviated enough that I'd consider surgery. On the other hand, polyps are an entirely different matter and so far as I know about them at this point in time they should eventually be removed. Unless there is a pressing reason, given the insurance situation, I'd pass for now and tell the doctor when the money or insurance becomes available you will re-visit the nasal polyp situation.

The ONLY polyps I am familiar with or have any understanding of are those found in the colon. They are removed and biopsied when found during a colonoscopy. If one or more are found and removed the recommendation becomes another colonoscopy in 5 years, unless, of course, if the biopsy is malignant. If no polyps are found then the usual recommendation is another scope in 10 years. Depending on your age group, of course. Based on that understanding evidently most polyps are either benign or pre-cancerous ones are slow growing.

I had this procedure done - but not because of polyps. I had severe recurring sinus infections and the nasal passages on one side became completely blocked. They surgery was not painful and the recovery was easy. Have you seen the xrays of your sinuses? It could be the polyps are so large that they are impacting your breathing. Since you have no insurance I would ask the doctor if there is any less invasive solution.
