No. I have used the same new car dealer for all my repairs and maintenance for 33 years. Perfectly honest and highly competent.
Maybe he's just a really good con man.
That what I was thinking...would you really know???

How do I know the two of you aren't con men?

Ouch, I'm wounded.

Note my second paragraph, or is taking quotes out of context your modus operandi. Of course the world is in terrible shape...to not know that is to be living under a rock.

It just seems to me that worrying and ranting about things that I can't change would only be hurting and frustrating me.

I think there are currently three active "Damn the DME" threads. it's preaching to the choir. Find a better DME, buy online, or I suppose you can just keep whining about it.

I did not take your quotes out of context...I quoted your ENTIRE POST......

You also said we are living in a culture in decline...that's because too many people think like you do and just accept it.

Well, I was mostly joking. I'll assume your car dealer is actually good.

However, it's good to realize the really good con men keep you happy while they rip you off.

My dad really liked his friendly local neighborhood insurance agent for 40 years or so. Then he saw how much his buddy was paying for insurance and decided to check rates. He found out that he was paying twice as much for his insurance as he needed to.

Bernie Madoff was real popular with his investors, and the darling of the media, too. Jim Bakker was popular with his victims, too. Most medical quacks are really good at making their victims think their treatment works.

I've known quite a few people who thought their car mechanic or dealer was good, but in fact, he was just a good ripoff artist who knew how to keep the customer happy.

I suspect a lot of uninformed people think their DME is really good when in fact, they're being screwed.

Luckily, a lot of the bad DMEs (and doctors) are too stupid and arrogant to keep their victims happy. And they still get away with it with most of their victims.

They said it was something like 93% (28/30 days), when I knew it should have been 96% (29/30 days). I told them the compliance should be 96.6% because I only missed one day and they said something like "93% is still really good". When I looked at the report they printed, all the days were split as though I was sleeping a few hours, then awake for 15-16 hours, then went to sleep for more hours.

When I asked them why it was so, they said something like "It does that sometimes". Being a software engineer, I know that it was user error. But because of their ignorance on how to set the timezone in EncorePro, the last day on the report showed I only slept 3.5 hours, which is less than the required minimum in order to count as compliant. Thus accounting for the extra day I they claimed I didn't use the machine.

This not only affects compliance data, but also all the daily stats were wrong because they would be computed based on 4.5 hours from one night then 3.5 hour from the next.

This doesn't really bother me so much because I have access to my own data, but I feel bad for that person who is around 70% compliant, but has their insurance rejected for non-compliance.

I'm going to see them on Monday so they can download my data to report back to my insurance company on my BiPAP usage. Before I hand them my SD card, I will politely ask them to verify the timezone is set correctly in their software. Whether they report 96.6% or 100% to the insurance company won't make a bit of difference in coverage, however, I'd like to use this opportunity to potentially help other, less data aware, customers.

Dave.
Just back from the DME. Before I handed them my SD card, I asked that they check what their timezone is set to in Encore Pro. They told me there is no place to set the timezone, so I asked them to check under "Company Data".

They went into the back room for a few minutes and I heard things like, "Hey, did you know about this?" and "No, I've never seen this before."

They came out and thanked me for telling them about how to set the timezone and that they've worked there for five years never knowing about it.

When they printed the detailed report, of course it showed 100% compliance now that their timezone is set correctly.

Be careful out there.

I figured you would get this response. You know, it is sort of sad and scary at the same time. Time zone is clearly explained in the Help section and yet no one even bothers to look. No one bothered to educate the personnel on how to use the software. Makes a person wonder what other education the personnel might be lacking. That's the scary part.

I think it is really, really sad that I get much better service fitting shoes or a bra then I ever did with my mask.

Yeah, I didn't expect much either. I'm glad they at least didn't stop after the point they told me there was not place to enter the time zone.

All in all, it doesn't matter for me. As I said before, the purpose of the visit was so they could report compliance to my insurance company and it only had to be above 70%. Whether they report 97% or 100% for me won't make a difference. Also, I'm educated enough about my therapy that nothing they say or do will really change how I operate. I track the effectiveness much more closely than they ever will.

I'm just glad that at least now for any other customers not as educated as I, they may get a little bit better information out of the reports they print.

The one thing I like most about my DME is that they let me test masks before buying. Since masks are the single biggest problem for xPAP users, this is a great service.

Love my DME. Very cooperative and they also let me try masks on before choosing and taking one home. And yesterday when I swapped, try let me return a couple hours later as I wasn't perfectly happy with the fit (turns out I needed a smaller size on the new mask).

Best this though was when my RT said "Check out CPAPTalk"! I just about fell out of my seat!
